My name is Terrance and my dads name is Jay. My parents bought me this truck when I was a freshman in high school. It was tan and had the stock, almost dead, 4 banger/5 speed in it. Paid $950.00 for it. It actually blew up about 5 miles from where we bought it and had to pull it home.

My dad asked me what I wanted to do: He could rebuild the 4 banger or build a 302 for about the same money. A no brainer to what I went with.

To make a long story short.. What started out being just a fun daily driver eventually turned into much more when he and I both realized the nasty potential of the 302 (a chevy guy he was before this).

Ended up having nitrous on is when I was a JR (100 shot) and ran it like that for several years, tweaking and tuning on it, untill finally, a kinked fuel line got the #1 cylinder when we upped to 150 shot :S
Here's what it looked like when I was in high school (the pic is out of a race w/ a GTO, which we spanked NA)

No worries though, because we were in the process of building a 69 block 351 windsor, specifically for nitrous.

Ran that setup for several years, upgrading the carb, ignition and eventually the heads (edelbrock Aluminum). After 4 years or so of repeatedly beating on it, it was time for the rebuild, just to freshen it up, new bearing and whatnot.
This is what it looked like during that time period.

After that was done, we upped the jets to 175, which we think was a mistake.
Long story short, the torque converter didn't have balooning plates and was beating agasint the crankshaft. I still don't fully understand what happened, but I saw the results of the crank beating agsint the main caps and it's not good.

So, another rebuild, this time w/a forged eagle crank and acutally a new block. Interestingly, we had to use custom chevy rods/pistons for this setup. Upgraded the cam to a .544 lift over the .488 we were running in the previous setup. Also went back to the 150 hp jets.

Now, during my trucks lifetime, it had never been to the track. We had raced it so many times on the street, actually never losing! Then finally, we finally got the opportunity on late last year to take it to SGMP in cecil Ga.
NA, we ran:
12.3
12.2
12.1

I don't have the slips in front of me and I can't recall the MPH.. around 115 +/- a few mph.

Then, on the one and only run on the bottle, we ran this (we are in the right lane)
A lil vid of it running

Needless to say, we were beside ourselves. A backyard father/son project hit 10's the first time to the track.
Here is the vid of the run... Unfortunately, it was a test and tune and the guy dad lined up against was a full out drag car who didn't want his time to be shown, so it's not in the video :(

Since it was last ran at the track, the carb has been upgraded, the slapper bars have been adjusted, brand new slicks on 10" wide wheels (the slicks we ran at the track were dead and on 8" wheels) and a wasp was removed from the fuel line.

Don't ask how it got in there, but it was there when we were at the track and it was clogging up a good bit of the fuel. Fortunate it didn't blow (though it ran fine). It was lodged right before the fuel filter. :P Crazy huh? Still confused how that happened as well :P

Next time at the track were hoping for sub 10.5 and 130 mph and PRAYING a tire lifts off the ground. We want that so bad it's not funny. Though, if nothing breaks, I don't see why it won't yank up, at least the left tire an inch or so.

BTW, the suspension is stock, save for drag struts up front/back and slapper bars. you can see the stock leaf springs in the pic of the fuel pumps.

Also, this is a daily driver. Not that it gets driven daily, but if you liked getting 14 mpg vs 30, you could :P

Any questions, comments?

Damn very nice ranger. I've been thinking about nitous for mine but everybody is trying to talk me out of it because mine is a daily driver. I don't care what gas mileage I get the looks are worth it. Nothing better than beating the doors off a chevy. Check my ranger out sometime let me know what you think.
