2008's highschool auto project is a wrecked 1982 Toyota 2WD pickup that received a 302 Ford V-8 2bbl. engine with a C-4 trans coupled to some donated 32 X 14.5 wrinklewalls. This truck will compete in our annual state wide Industrial Tech Expo May 11, 2007. We hope to again win the group project award. Most of the conversion components were salvaged from a 1975 V-8 Mustang including fuel system components, a C-4 trans, and the seats. The engine came from a 1985 Ford wagon and was converted to the 2bbl. carb and a Duraspark 2 ignition system was created for the spark control. Due to space limitations, the trans kickdown is operated by a Lincoln fuel door solonoid and carb microswitch. The Toyota rear end is stock with a 1988 Cougar flange welded to the stock Toyota. Driveshaft mods were done in house in the metalshop. Custom 13 inch wide mags were built from original station wagon turbine mags heliarced to 6 inch Lincoln wires, all done on a brake lathe. Truck bedliner will be the final finish with a homemade interior to come. Here are the latest Pictures after the Industrial Tech Expo. Street legal cheater slicks were added to make the truck less officer prone at the local shows and runs. The first test drive resulted in the transmission exploding at about 75 mph. We found out later the C4 was from a 4cyl Pinto. It has since been replaced with a Mustang II V8 unit. Our metals department did the tailgate plate with their plasmacam so we added 13 licence plate lamps and wired them to the taillamps. The lens cover is from Menards (flourescent lamp lens ) and the red is a translucent notebook cover. Total cost $13. It's a lot of fun to drive and reminds me a lot of my V8 Pinto of the 70's, steer by throttle! Total cost so far is about $1600.
This project continues on in 2010-11. Please see page 2.
