ECU SYSTEM

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z I decided to go with the megasquirt 2 DIY standalone FUEL/INGITION system. Its a nice ECU you can use practically any ignition system available today, as well as different coolant/air/knock/ and injectors. All you have to do is wire them in and program them.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Here is some of the wiring job.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z  all done! this intake was heavily worked on when I was doing the rebuild. Its ported, as well as bigger throttle body. I also decided to weld/grind lots of openings on it to give it a cleaner look.

At this point the car is still not running right I figured its about time to get rid of the distributor setup that was the only thing running from the legacy setup. And go with a wasted spark coil pack.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Here is a coil pack from a v6 93-98 Ford (explorer, taurus, mustang)

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z  Here is the trigger wheel off an explorer its a 36-1 wheel the missing tooth will let the ingition module figure out where TDC is.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Here is the wheel bolted to an adaptor that is bolted to the crank pulley you can see the VR sensor also bolted to the Timing cover. These parts where made by DEREK on Hybridz , he made this conversion much easier!

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z  the Edis to MS schematic.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Here is the Ignition module it will be tucked right under the fender.

Now its all done the car is running nicely at this point ! mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z  The car got some new shoes! Rota RB 16x8 with Yokohomo S drive tires.

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z I removed the bumper and put on eurthane front kit. It really needs the bumper back on here!

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Much cleaner with the Edis coil pack

mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z Went wit ha Huge oversized intercooler(regret it actually) had to cut in to the rad support to make the pipes go through.

Here is some of the plumbing shots. its a Bar and plate style intercooler. With a 1 psi drop over 16 psi.mafiazs 1971 Datsun 240Z

Hey thanks for the comment! I did get the MS2 V3 running. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Just be patient and take your time. It starts up in about 1 or 2 revs and idles strong at about 700 rpms. Now I just have to figure out the clutch/transmission problem before winter... But its getting cold now so it might not happen until spring :( Your Z is very clean, I love how sweet that engine looks after that rebuild and those white gauges. Keep up the good work! All that hard work is worth it once it starts for the first time and you get chills!
