mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240Z The Car One of a kind soft top 1971 240z w/l28et swapped , 5spd. r200. 2.5" downpipe/3" exhuast. summit rad.4X4 calipers. Auto Metergauges. momo wheel RSX seats

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240ZHistroy My brother bought a 280zx turbo in really rough shape for $200 The car was illegally parked and after some neighbours complained I came home one day from school and saw the car on a flatbed towtruck talk about good timing. After speaking to the towtruck driver than his boss on the phone I convinced him to take it to a local High school and pay him $40 instead of the 40 and the 120 fee to take it out of the impound. We were both happy since the impound was far anyway..

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240ZHistroy Here is a shot of the complete rear brakes/axles/arms/differential. I was really picky to The high school auto teacher about stripping the car. I told them I didnt not care about most of the body as long as drivetrain and efi harness were intact and unmolested.

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240Z FOUND A CAR to swap it in. Clean 240z from kitchener, via georgia.

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240ZWhen I got there I was shocked too see it had a soft vynl top I have never seen this on internet/person/ or even heard of. I thought it looked nice and gave the car a more classic look. After speaking and negotiating with the owner (he told us he bought it from original owner and the top came like that in a rare dealer option in georgia. The car was very solid and I was impressed with the body and drivetrain. interior another story.

Here are all the pics of the car before I actually started working. mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240Z

This all needed some renew/restore/modernize a bit.

THE SWAP

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240Z The engine I recieved in the car was the l28 bottom off a 280z and e-88 head with dual su's this setup was quick and torquey.

mafiaz's 1971 Datsun 240Z After moving in our house and 240z had a home I wasted no time. I bought the car to do the swap and I had a blueprint of how I wanted this car exactly to spec.

Hey thanks for the comment! I did get the MS2 V3 running. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Just be patient and take your time. It starts up in about 1 or 2 revs and idles strong at about 700 rpms. Now I just have to figure out the clutch/transmission problem before winter... But its getting cold now so it might not happen until spring :( Your Z is very clean, I love how sweet that engine looks after that rebuild and those white gauges. Keep up the good work! All that hard work is worth it once it starts for the first time and you get chills!
