My 2004 GTO is my daily "grocery getter" as well as my autocross car. I've been driving it in class "F" Stock since spring 2005; I won the yearly championship that year by only 6 points! The 2006 season was much easier as my main competitor moved away and the guys who took his place were new to the sport; I won the 2006 championship easily (maybe too easily!). The first event of the 2007 season was last Sunday (March 18th), and I finished second by .257 seconds! I split these two guys (father and son team) in a 1998 TransAm who were learning last year, and they're getting better! The car is stock as per the SCCA rules; I have a K&N drop-in filter, Kumho V710 tires (dry), or Yokohama A032 tires (wet), front Hawk race/autocross brake pads, and a Whiteline adjustable front anti-roll bar.
Added July 2. 2007: Hi, guys! Thanks for all the great comments and ratings! Please keep nominating me for the next "BullRun" to fly the GTO flag! I think I'm a good enough driver, and ruthless enough (when necessary!) to win it! Updating my autocross results, I won in May at Texas Motor Speedway on the Bus Lot course (we call it "Black Lake"; a HUGE lot of black, slick asphalt!), and I won in June at Mineral Wells. Mineral Wells is about 30 miles west of Fort Worth, and the course is set-up at the local airport on a large asphaltic concrete area that used to be part of the old Fort Wolters helicopter training facility. So, a large, fast course can be designed that really tests a car's speed, handling, and especially braking. I'm well ahead of the TransAm guys in "F" Stock at this time, and I plan to stay there! Next event is July 15th at Texas Motor Speedway on the infield road course; I've won there the last two years (4 years if you count my wins in my SVT Focus before the GTO), so I'm very familiar with it. I'll add some pics soon!
New addtion!!!!! Okay, it's 2009, so it's time to update. Firstly, I won the "F Stock" championship for 2007, so that's three in a row for the Goat! Secondly, I don't have the Goat anymore.....my lease was due to be up in April, 2008, but GMAC gave me some financial incentives that were too good to ignore, and my neighbor who works for Chevron/Tecron told me in Dec. '07 that gas would be $4.00/gal. (or more!) by summer '08 (he was right!), so I turned the Goat back to GMAC in Jan. '08 and got a Chevy Cobalt Sport Coupe. The '08 Sport Coupe is in fact almost identical to the '07 non-supercharged Cobalt SS; very good performance, and 50% better city gas mileage than the GTO got! I'm going to start a new page soon for the Cobalt; I entered the SCCA Solo II "D" Street Prepared class this past year (2008) and won! I had to fight a much-modified 2005 Chevy Cavalier all season, and we actually tied in points for the year; I ended-up with the yearly trophy due to one more win when you only counted head-to-head competition. Pictures and a new Cobalt page soon!
This is on the road course at Texas Motor Speedway, October 2006, in the rain.
This is me at LaGrave baseball field in Fort Worth, Texas, in November 2006, last event of '06.
This is at Pennington Field, Bedford, TX, March 18th, 2007.
Also at Pennington, Field, March 18th, 2007. Woo hoo! Accelerating HARD!
At Pennington Field, April 22nd, 2007. The same location for pics 6-10. I finished second that day; got spanked by a very well-driven Infiniti G35 coupe. I'll get him back in May at Texas Motor Speedway!
