Supra 1.0 Interior Recolor
Finally done! Keeping it dyed cloth until I can afford leather all around, which will probably be well after I get out of college, so at least 4 more years... I just couldn't justify spending $600 on leather when an intercooler setup would cost about the same =) It's very comfortable though, and doesn't look half bad for an 89 interior!

The old interior:
My old interior doesn't look all that bad in pictures, but in person it was terrible, even after cleaning it up. Everything was stained and smelled funny, there was rust starting to form under some of the interior panels, and the dashboard had a crack the size of the grand canyon in it. I also did not really like the gray color, and have always preferred a plain black interior on cars, so I set out to get new panels for the ones in bad shape and dye them all black. I dyed everything with VHT vinyl dye, and it is amazing stuff. I have tried to scratch it off, and it actually makes scratches in the vinyl but keeps the color, just like a factory panel would. The color isn't a layer of paint, it bonds with the vinyl for high durability. I'm sure it will still wear off eventually but it looks like it'll take a long time.
Teardown!
And cleaning/dying it all... this took ages!
This whole interior color change actually started because I wanted to replace the worn out hatch shocks. I never did intend to change it all to black even though I disliked the gray, but removing the hatch shocks meant removing the whole interior behind the rear seats, so I decided why not take it all out and change it to black!

Done cleaning/dying, but not in the car yet. At this point I had the engine so the interior was no longer my main priority.
Somewhere along the line I also decided plain black was too boring, so a few sections are red. For the seats I went with red on the outside and black on the inside just because every other two-toned seat out there is the opposite =) Oh and that black carpet you see there? Yeah, it's a huge pain to install.
Out of everything I've done to this car, the interior is probably the worst because of how much time it took to do and how boring it was to do it. Imagine wiping down, cleaning with water, cleaning with alcohol, cleaning with water again, drying, spraying about 5 coats of dye, and waiting for each piece to dry about 20 times... but it really does look a lot better! Eventually I want to get everything re-wrapped in leather, but that costs a bit too much at the moment =)
