This is the page about the swap.
Here is the old cradle.
It had 418,000kms on it when the tranny wouldnt engage gears properly and the engine blew a rod.
This car was originally just going to be a donor for the tranny because it was a GM remanufactored one with about 40k on it. And the Bonneville just wasnt worth the money to fix with this many clicks but a project.
Instead of trying to take both trans and engine out of both cars for the swap I just decided to swap cradles.
Altogether it was not a very long project. Took about 10 days of 7-10 hours each day before it was running. Due to time this was done over a couple months. And the snow did not help. The hardest part was aligning the cradle and steering.
Once I had the cradle bolted on and lined up I began to rewire the engine. The harnesses were a little bit different. But combining them is pretty straight forward. After the Wiring was done I re-ran the fuel lines because the old ones somehow got tisted and would not line up the engine. Plus one was hitting the steering and the other the y-pipe.
Finished hooking up heating, washer fluid, rad, fan, tranny cooling lines etc.
And for some reason when I was taking the cradles off I seemed to have cut the brake lines so there are all new front brake pads, calipers, re-surfaced rotors and new lines from the master cylinder to the calipers on both sides.
