This is my 1975 Z that I am the second owner of. It has gone through a few changes within the last 19 years that I have owned it.
Origanally it was Blue with an Automatic Transmission. The car had over a 150K miles on it until it died on me at around 200K that is when all the fun started! Ohh before I killed the motor I was fortunate enough to smack the front of the car pretty good to the point it sat for a year to get fixed.
I repainted the same color Blue!!! The engine was being rebuilt and I decided to go with a Mikuni Sidedrafts. Awesome power!!! The tranny was changed to a 5 speed off an 80's model Z. Great conversion like I added overdrive for the highway!
As time marched on and I started dating the car was becomming less practical. Although it was a "Chick Magnet" (not really). My girlfriend (now wife) was less hesitante to go far distances in my car. But, that didn't stop me I still kept my Z with all the intentions of showing her!
Then it happened the day I could no longer smog my car! I tried and tried, but it was labeled a gross polluter! So it sat at my parents house, then at my house and was it was looking dim for the old girl!
I pressed on and time heals all wounds! I was exempt and my project Z has begun. A slow process because I didn't want to Mickey Mouse the project. She got a beautiful paint job from Rich and Famous Auto in Van Nuys, CA and His brother did my upholstery at their shop next door. Took out all the glass, engine, bumpers...fo make sure that we squirted everything to make the color change as good as it can get.
I sent my dash up to Washington to a Dash Restoration company that re-skinned it and fixed the cracks. I was never keen on the dash caps for the car.
Too Intense Restoration in Anahiem, CA helped me with the odds and ends hard to get rubber gaskets, emblems and other interior pieces. They had the car for a month or so doing that type of restoration. I was very pleased with the work a bit pricey, but you have to pay for quality.
Precision Z in Canoga Park, CA did the final engine touches. We removed the Mikuni Sidedrafts and installed an Arizona Z Manifold and a Holley 390 Carb. Wow what a difference. When tuned the Mikuni's are second to none, but I don't drive that often in her so it was harder and harder to tune. The Holley was a good choice it has electronic choke too!
What is left....the stereo and small squaks with the electric, but I think that is minor repairs that will be done shortly. I might lower the car and give her some new rims, but we will see. I am hoping to make West Coast Z Nationals this year with her! She is 90% finished.
I will keep you posted
TY
