This is a project that I started in August 2006 and finished in February 2007. It was a 1965 VW BEETLE, and I converted it into a Dune Buggy. Was a fun project and plan on doing it again soon.
This page shows step by step what I did to the BEETLE, to convert it into the buggy.
After picking up the beetle, the body has to come of to prepare the pan for shortening.
Preparing the pan for shortening. The object here is to shorten the floor pan directly behind the seat tracks by 14.5" to fit the fiberglass body (which was purchased brand new from Berrien Buggy.
After the 14.5" was removed it was time to weld back together the pan.. There are many different methods to cutting the pan, but in the end all of the produce the same finished product, and all are equally as strong.
After it is welded back together it is time to fit the body to make any adjustments before mounting it.
After the body was fit and mouted I insalled the headlights and windshield. and here is a shot of the motor cleaned and tuned, and a shot of the inside with the speedo installed.
NEW RIMS AND TIRES!! made it look so much better.
Next I installed the "bubble side panels"
And here are finished pics of it with the rollbar and seats installed.
