First up is a picture of the car almost right after I got it. A lot has changed since then. Its still got the raggedy red paint job covering up the factory Coral/Colonial paint scheme. Since then I have picked up a nice set of fnder skirts, the chrome trim for the sides and above the headlights, new grille, and 90% of the bondo work.
Next up is a picture of my finely sewn seat covers as well as my home made door lock knob. I think it did the job quite well for a totaly cost of $0. Scrounged some seat upholstery brand new in box from 4/20/1960 that will be replacing the current setup. A nice Black and White vinyl with some intricate cloth inserts.
Heres a picture of the good side as well as the front bumper after a quick go over with chrome polish and 0000 brass wool. Gotta love the quad headlights. Makes for some interesting wiring.
Finally (for now) a before shot of the hot 302 dropped in sometime in the past. Not sure what exactly was done to the engine, but I suspect cams and either a shaved head or higher compression pistons. With the two barrell factory set up I could roast the tires through the C4 and 3.93 9" from a 10mph roll. Since the pictures I have added a cheap edelbrock air cleaner (needed one that actually sealed). I also managed to find a pair vintage Cal Custom 7 Fin valve covers for the price of $20 which my friend is currently fixing (one fin had a chip in it). Also added an Edelbrock Performer 289 intake and Holley 600CFM carb (a little too much carb, but it was cheap and I need top end power the most.). I also ran some asphault wire loom through half of the engine compartment.
I have also replaced the entire ignition and electrical system with a gel cell battery, new ignition switch, new wiring, new starter, GM 1 Wire alternator conversion, New spark plugs, New spark plug wires, new starter relay, new polished stainless allen head engine bolt kit, new hoses, bew belt. Just need to wait until I can find a cheap valve cover spacer and run those Cal Customs.
I have also replaced the missing 6"x9" speakers with Alpine units and Im running a slightly older pioneer H/U. No amps, subs, caps, or good quality H/U right now.
Next up its going to the paint shop so leave me some ideas. Right now I cant decide between Red/White, Red/Black, Emerald/White, Emerald/Black, All reds would have a tinge of burgundy to give it that darker tone. Ive also been kicking around the idea of a Red body with the top done early lowrider style (flake, panels, candy, ect.) just not sure if the car could pull it off. It certainly does have the right surfaces for a fade, lots of sharp angles and flat spots.
It has had the entire brake system overhauled uncluding a modern 8" dual diaphram brake booster coupled with a modern dual resivour master cylinder. All new pads, rebuilt brake drums, new brake lines and stop light switch.
As far as the engine goes I still need to reduce the number of wires (run a single wire to a fuse box inside the car), paint the heads, swap out water pump for a high flow aluminum one, and figure out exactly which year and car this is from. It has an PCV set-up so it cant be an early 260 or 289 (heads read 302 anyway), waterpump is that of a mid 60's to mid 70's ford. My only problem is I cant seem to find a way to read the block casting code. I figure one of these days Ill get down there with a mirror and flashlight or just rub a pencil over binder paper. Custom bent exhaust from the headers back, stainless steel pipes with turbo mufflers. Wish I had gone with the slightly louder glass packs or even steel packs/no exhaust. At idle its a nice mellow tone with a slight lope from the cam, but when the C4 downshifts, it screams like its doing 7500 RPM.
As far as gauges go Im torn between making my own custom cluster by re-using the bezel and a flat piece of engine turned aluminum/copper/brass or rebuilding the stock. Seeing as I already have a SW speedo and Oil pressure gauge I might just go with the custom setup as a unique approach.
