Hideki's Shutokou C4 Corvette Z51
Welcome all tuner Corvette fans! My name is Hideki and I'm the pilot for this 1990 Corvette Z51 coupe. It left the factory with almost all the performance options you could get with the base coupe, Z51 performance handling package, J55 big brakes, FX3 selective ride control, and 6-speed ZF gearbox. Powering my plastic supercar is the L98 350 cubic inch 5.7 liter "small-block" Chevrolet V8 with tuned-port injection. I've always loved these wedges, from the first time I laid eyes on a tuned C4 strafing the Shinjuku expressways I knew one day I had to have my own! I still have a long ways to go before I'm finished, but she's getting there :)
The Car
While I couldn't afford the awesome ZR1 or Callaway Corvettes, A potent Z51 with a 6-speed I could tune was ideal. While actually hunting down the machine I wanted took time, the twin turbo kit and Callaway bumper fell right into my lap (hopefully I can get around to installing both of those soon) Here are the most current snaps of my Z51, bon appetit!

The Mods
Hideki just can't leave a car well enough alone, it needs to get tuned. I started by lowering the car 1.5" front and back, I added a K&N filtercharger, HKS exhaust (3" Y-pipe to 2.5" dual pipes) 17x9.5" ARE meshies with a stretched BFgoodrich gForce tires, 1.5" hub-centric spacers for the rear wheels, and a Magnaflow high-flow catalytic convertor. I'm still getting ready to install my Unser twin turbo kit which'll be absolutely insane when it's finished.
Yes, HKS exhaust. This thing has a nice burble at idle/part throttle, but screams at WOT. It fits the whole shutokou theme and when have you ever seen HKS exhaust on a Corvette ;)
1.5" spacers were nessecary to push those wheels out so the top of the stretched tire would line up with the fender. While the widebody ZR1 and fender flares for the GS look nice, something about the base coupe's narrow-body looks perfect to me :)
Lowering a C4 is actually pretty easy, it's just a new wedge for the front transverse spring, and longer bolts for the rear transverse spring. You need to lower these cars to bring out their awesome stance.
Aside from doing all the maintenance issues with any 20 year old supercar (things like fuel pumps/filters, belts, waterpump, PCV valve, all the fluids etc) the only mod so far under the hood is a K&N filtercharger and a low temp fan switch (these things need to run hot but mine was excessive) When properly maintained and tuned these beasts can scoot, even with the factory rating of 250 hp and 350 lb-ft coupled to a six speed and a Dana 44 rear axle this things quick.
Alright I'm cheating, since my twin turbo kit is still in the garage I can't really consider it a "mod" but c'mon don't you wanna see it? :) It features two Garrett M24 turbochargers, massive downpipes with exhaust cut-outs! a funky front mount intercooler and two additional injectors (with a primitive fuel computer) I love the custom throttle-body that looks just like the Callaway Sledgehammer's. This system was designed and built by a shop called "Engine's by Unser" founded by the brother of Indy driver Al Unser.
Yes, I have a Callaway Aerobody front bumper. Don't ask how I got it or I'd have to kill you. It needs some work but c'mon it's an Aerobody front bumper for gods sake! It's worth its weight in unobtanium.
