Engine page!!
Well, it's about that time. The original L69 just went over 12000 miles and it runs great, however storing it for over 7 years really did a number on the seals and it's time for a rebuild.
March 2008
I've decided to go ahead and swap the motor for a 350. The motor that's going in is a 4-bolt main that has been cleaned, honed, magnafluxed and bored .040. The block is an 880 block which is an original vortec motor out of a 1998 Chevy Silverado. I'm going with an edelbrock performer intake, world Sportsman II heads and, a complete scat rotating assembly that's been balanced. The desktop dyno says that at 4200Rpm I'll peak at 420ft-lbs of torque and 5500rpm will get me 320hp. That's flywheel power there so I'll lose about 20% of that through the drivetrain I suppose. As of 1 June the old engine has been pulled and is sitting on a stand. The new one is right next to it just waiting for me to put it in. I hope to have it installed in the next week or so. More to come!!
Update time!!
August 2008
I got the new motor in and it's running well. It took about 2 months longer than expected due to delays but other than that I'm pretty happy with it. I still am having starter issues and it's overheating a bit...like alot, but I've got it down to manageable. I'll post pictures of the build and install when I get some more time to sit down and mess with it.
April 2009
Well, after having some problems with broken valve springs, a leaky water pump, a bad alternator and a nasty, nasty vacuum leak, she's running strong! It took about 4 months longer than I had wanted but she's good to run for the summer now.
The final list of mods are as follows
Edelbrock Performer Intake, SRP dished Hypereutectic pistons, World Sportsman II heads, Scat cast crank, forged I-beam rods and clevit 77 main bearings topped off by a set of Comp Cams pro-magnum roller rockers. The cam is a Lunati Voodoo roller cam with a lift of .515 intake and .530 exhaust with an advertised duration of 272/278. The carb is a Jet Performance Products Quadrajet. It has .080 main jets, enlarged secondary metering rods and is tuned for this motor. The pictures are as follows...
First I am going to start out with a dyno run of my old 305 done right before I pulled the motor from the car.

And now onto the 350 build...
For starters we'll see the World Sportsman II heads and the assembled shortblock.

The engine on the stand at the engine shop

Next is the Lunati Cam...

Below are the parts I put together for the heads. They are world sportsman II heads with a 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust, 66cc chamber heads and they've been modified to work with an EGR valve. To the right of this are my springs and the Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers.

Next we have the block, cam, crank and SRP pistons that went into it followed by the motor freshly installed into the car but not quite finished yet.

Next we have a picture of the Holley Electric Fuel pump that I installed.

Finally some pictures of my friend Jack and I installing the motor

Long story short, it was a very fun and trying learning experience! Now that it's all said and done, here are the dyno results!! Not to shabby for as street motor with Air Conditioning, Smog equipment and an automatic! 232hp and 293 Torque to the wheels! Figuring 18-20% parasitic loss, I am right about my 300 flywheel HP goal!
