In 2005 I rebuilt the motor and transmission. Didn't change much other than increase the compression from 9.6 to 10.9:1 and add a nitrous kit in 2006.
Went to TnT at Sac Raceway on September 29, 2006. My best 60' was 1.51 and my best time was 10.47 @ 129MPH. It was still spinning and should run about a 1.45 60' and 10.30 at 131. Heres the time slip:

Here are some videos of the car:
Here is a video of the 10.47 pass:
Nitrous System
- MSD 8969 window switch
- NOS Big Shot plate
- Nitrous Works 10# bottle
- Holley Blue pump and regulator
Took it to Sacramento Raceway today, January 22, 2006. First pass off the trailer it went 11.55 @ 119 MPH with a 1.69 sixty foot time. On subsequent passes the times kept dropping. By the 3rd pass it ran 11.43 @ 119.74 MPH and track officials suggested I slow it down a bit since my car lacks a rollbar, etc. My best sixty foot time was 1.66 which is OK but the car should leave much harder. I'll have nitrous on it soon and with a 150 shot it should run mid 10's.
Here are the specs on the motor:
- '71 LT-1 block bored .040 over
- Stock forged GM steel crank
- Lunati 6" Street Race rods
- Keith Black hypereutectic pistons (10.9:1 compression)
- Total Seal rings
- Durabond bearings
- Fluidampr balancer
- Crower solid roller cam and lifters (264 and 274 @ .050 with .630" lift)
- Crane double bar stud girdle
- Crane Gold race 1.5 ratio roller rockers
- AFR 210 race ready heads with 2.08" and 1.60" valves and 1.550 roller springs
- Port matched Victor Jr. intake
- Race Demon 825CFM general competition carb
- MSD Pro billet distributor
- MSD Digital 6 ignition box

The engine was in very good shape when we pulled it apart. The only parts that were about to fail were 3 cam bearings, 1 roller lifter and 3 roller rockers. Not bad for an engine that was last rebuilt 5-1/2 years ago and had a solid roller cam for 3-1/2 years.

Here are some pictures of the Hughes rebuild kit for the transmission and the 10" competition converter from TCI. The converter has anti-balloning plates which means it will handle a transbrake and or nitrous. According to TCI it should stall at 4,200 or above.

Drivetrain Specifications:
- TCI 10" 4,200 stall Torque Converter
- Hughes Kevlar bands, Kolene steels and Red Alto clutches
- TCI 34 element intermediate sprag
- TCI reverse manual valvebody
- B&M Quicksilver shifter
- Ford 9" rearend housing from a '67 Mustang, Strange center section, Motive Gear spool, Richmond gears and 33 spline Moser axles
