This is my 1998 Mondeo ST24 saloon.

I have always loved Mondeos - this is my fourth (second V6), but wanted it to be different from the rest so decided to modify it.

I have fitted a turbo with a charge cooler, only a T28 at the moment, but this will be replaced by a larger turbo and larger intercooler at some point. Fitting this turbo and only using upto 10 psi of boost, means I don't need to change the engine internals too much yet.

The head gaskets have been replaced with copper headgaskets, and I have used ARP studs and nuts to keep the heads in place. The water pump has been replaced to make sure it has a metal impeller.

The power is transmitted to the wheels via an uprated clutch, quaiffe ATB and beefier drive shafts. The box itself should be able to handle current power levels.

The fuel system has also been uprated. The fuel pump is a motorsport item capable of 500 bhp (alledgedly!) which supplies fuel to the new 26lb injectors (there is a set of 42lb injectors waiting to go in when the bigger turbo arrives). The pressure regulator has also been replaced so that the icreased fuel flow rates can be managed.

Cooling for the charge cooler is managed by three Mocal oil coolers fitted inside the front bumper. I originally had only two fitted, with a third plumbed into the engine coolant system to manage the heat from the water cooled turbo. It turned out I didn't really need this one so used the third for charge cooling. To optimise air flow to the coolers, the centre bar from the bumper opening was removed (this has increase airfow area by around 30% to each cooler)

Currently, the engine bay looks like this. As most Mondeo / Contour owners will know, very little room to work on anything

After having the ST mapped by Mark at MAD near reading, we decided the chargecooler is too small and was restricting the airflow (only about 210 bhp) so I have replaced it with an intercooler. The space is very restricted, but I have taken out the a/c and fitted a remote oil filter to make more room for the plumbing. I am waiting to get it mapped again, but am expecting iro 250 bhp. We'll see!!!
