This was my first real drag car. The chassis was built by Spirit Welding in Macedonia Ohio. Russ Hansen at Spirit originally built the chassis for a guy that backed out. It took me a while to finish the car due to a limited budget and time. I ran 2 different motors (427 and 454) in the car during the time I raced it. My family and friends stopped coming to the races so I gave it up. I traded this car for a 63 Chevy Pro Street pickup (also on this site). It ran 8.9 to 9.1 depending on track and weather. I only ran at the tracks in NE Ohio (Quaker City, Norwalk, Thompson, and Dragway 42). The wheel stand picture was at Thompson. I saw the car for sale again but its now Blue and runs a small block chevy.

1964 Plymouth Fury. This was the car I had before I went to the 23 Altered. This picture was taken at Quaker City by Salem Ohio. This was an original 426 Wedge car with a 4 speed. This was a drag car when I bought it back in 1975 for $375. I put a $75 new process 4 speed and a $300 stock 440 and ran 12.9 to 13.2 with it. I found a real 426 Max Wedge motor with Stahl headers for $700 and started running 11.90 to 12.10 I had the rear springs moved to the frame rails and put a 11" tire and started running in the mid 11's with a best of 11.46 @ 121 I wanted to go faster but cost was prohibitive so I went to the 23 Altered. Was originally going to keep the Max Wedge motor for the Altered but the motor plates, trans, and headers were already setup for the BBC. I would still like to find a 64 Savoy but they are hard to find since everyone is building Max Wedge and Hemi Clones. Still like the early Mopars and always go out of my way at the cruise in to check them out. I have a 7+ year old Grandson who just might have an early Mopar as his first car if we're both lucky.
