I stumbled upon this 1979 Ghia while I was in the process of building my 1984 LX.
My '84 Mustang had a 3.8 which I was swapping for a built 306. So I got myself a 302 from an 87 GT, and took it over to Poes machine shop to get the block re conditioned, when I saw this '79 stang sitting in the shop. At first I thought nothing of it, but when I took a closer look at the car, I was interested. "You can start it." the guy says. So I fired it up. Once i heard it thump, I was hooked. So I offered the owner a partial trade, including my car and some parts, and brought my new baby home the next weekend.

As you can see, it has an '84 front end on it, and '84 style tail lights, but the interior screams 1979, with its Ghia emblems and faded 70's red interior.

But didnt your momma ever tell you? Its whats under the hood that counts!

The motor and transmission were rebuilt about 600 miles ago. The bottom end is stock, but has had the crank re-ground with new bearings installed. Its still in great shape. The heads are from the factory, but have had some port work done. It has an Edelbrock intake, a new cam (.488 lift/ around 284 duration), topped off with a Holley 650. The ignition is stock except for the MSD coil and Accel wires. There is not a single drop of fluid anywhere on the outside of this motor! Its clean enough to eat off of.
The transmission is a T5 from a later model mustang, rebuilt with Liberty gears and a short throw shifter.
The 7.5 rear end has been swapped out for an 8.8 with 4.30 gears.
The exhaust consists of full length headers and Flowmaster 40's, dumped just before the axles. It sounds wicked.
Ill be doing a few things here and there before spring time hits, such as a new speedometer gear, tach, air cleaner, and I might put tail pipes on it before too long.
