Got in an accident the other day.
Was comming up to an intersection where you need to turn left or right ( big retaining wall straigh ahead) I go to turn left, go up the tiny incline then turn, am on the gas (bad idea) unload the rear end, swings way out, I try to controll it, oversteer to the right missing another car by inches, lock all 4 wheels up and hit the wall.
In a sence im lucky, if I hit another car or somthing things could be MUCH worse. Truck still runs fine.
run down of the damage:
Front fender - total loss
Side marker - lost (litraly)
Bumper - bent to hell
Lower valence - salvagable but will probibly replace anyways.
Light trim - snapped
Quick picture:
Shot from the drivers side, no damage. Took off bug deflector, fender flares and trim. Looks good!
I have collected all the parts for the repair:
The new new capa certified fender
The used bumper and new valance
I found a used grill (same guy I got the bumper from) The center peice was in rough shape, the chrome was peeling off, so I took off the headlight rings and bolted them to my original grill center peice.
I went back to the scene of the accident and I found my side marker light, no damage, well except for the light clip, it broke in half.
I wanted to do the repair myself, I went to unbold the valance, first thing to go.. doh rusty bolts!
I couldnt budge them, I got pretty pissed off and called it quits.
I set out to find sombody to do it for me, after talking to a few people, 150 bucks to do the repair minus paint.
I really didn't want to pay sombody to do it, so when I came home today, beautiful day ( pretty hot ) I decided to give it another go, heres how it went...
bumper+valance removed together
Grille+ remaining side marker taken off.
Fender removed, had a hell of a time with the antenna stub. stupid me didn't realize it just screwed apart.. lol
New fender put on, had to bent some parts of the inner fender and rad support that where tweaked in the accident but its like 95% lined up
Grill put together with the used headlight bezels and my original center peice
Grill installed + side markers
Bumper+valance installed, again not 100% lined up, but its WAY to hot out today to fiddle with it! ( around 30°C)
FINISHED!!!
All in all, took me roughly 4 hours with a few breaks to swear about broken fender bolts ;)
I have to say, not bad for a first timer at body work
