General:

I bought the 87 RX-7 in the fall of 2006 and did alot of work on it through the evenings and weekends over the winter the first year.  The later years alot of work was done but has slowed down alot as the car is getting close to its final state.  Everything for this car I have done myself in my own garage. This car was also the perk of my business, funding wise.  When I bought the car it was in really clean shape with no body damage, no rust anywhere, minor dent in rear quarter panel...and 144,000km. So working with this as a template was great. The idea behind this car is for a daily (summer) driver and for long road trips, this is why certain aspects of the vehicle are being completely replaced with new parts. I like the car alot and despite the challanges of having a Rotary engine in a Mazda as we have no Mazda dealers or Mazda parts stores in Prince George. On top of that no one up here seems to have a clue about what a Rotary motor really is...so finding parts from my normal parts store is okay and pretty much every performance part I have to order online and bring in. In my keeping this car will be kept in very nice shape, as it evolves it will become a very compentant car to take to track days (road coarses) and fun to drive, I enjoy driving cars that are very precise in handling so this to me is perfection.

Here's a picture of the car after I did the rims, otherwise this is how the car looked when I baught it, but dustier...

Here's a closer look at the front windshield decal I did its a red/orange reflective and when the sun shines on it color matches to the car almost perfect...looks orange with a bright flash though.

And I still haven't gotten to the engine bay clean up but here it is anyways. This pic shows the Front Strut to firewall tower I installed, currently the torque arm is out.

misc...parts needed fixing when I bought the car but very minor stuff. couple wiper control issues relay need fixing, horn button had a grounding issue, few interior vents needed replacing, rear hatch shock was shot and there is a minor oil leak on the oil pan gasket and the oil pressure sending unit was leaking.

I have a couple other vehicles as well, a 2002 GMC Sierra done up nicely baught this brand new in 2001 and it was my main driver for 4 years until I baught my 2005 Pontiac Sunfire brand new as well. I still needed the truck and was a must in the winter but the car got used alot in the spring/summer/fall months Its funny though I baught this with the mindset to do it up with a body kit, turbo, brakes, rims, etc... but only did the exhaust, tint and decals and then it stopped I couldn't bring my self to do up a car thats so common in pg...it would always be a sunfire no matter how much $$ was put into it. So thats why I baught the RX-7...its different, rarer and has a certain style that apeals to me and an older car lends it self to more tuning and fixing which I enjoy. I had planned to keep the sunfire as a daily driver but decided to get rid of it in favour of another project car:) The sunfire finally sold in 2007 (don't miss it at all...nope been over a year and no regrets) and replaced it with the 81 RX-7 in my garage here, big project see its page for details.

Planned work for the Gen 2 RX-7:

Window tint one day...very low priority

Recovering the APC seats to match the car closer & embrioder Mazda RX-7 where the current APC is

Replace the NRG harnesses with Momo or Sparco cam lock

Exhaust temp guage

Fuel pressure guage

Sparco shift light

Aluminum drive shaft

Stage 1 clutch

Lightened steel flywheel

Rear wing stock GTU style

Wider rear tires/rims

Unsure of a body kit at this point I love the stock looks...but may decide to go with a set of wide fenders and maybe a lightweight hood.

Roll cage may be in the books too...
