Hi,
Since a few people were looking for this, here is my cars cardomain page. I do have an out-of-date website at locoblade.2ya.com for the build but I think what I'll do here is just document a short start to finsh type thing.
What you're seeing there is a car I have more or less built from the ground up into a road-legal feather-weight (440kgs/970lb) rocket. Power comes from a Honda fireblade CBR900 engine - I chose this because the whole engine gearbox assy. weighs just over 50kg/110lbs. The engine produces 140bhp so that equates to well over 300bhp/tonne. To put that in perspective a ferrari f430 just about matches this figure. However the ferrari weighs 3 times as much which means is that it can't hold the same speeds through corners or put the power down as hard - this car can get to 60mph in under 4 seconds, so I think it's fair to assume that the ferrari would get left behind.
The car is loosely inspired by the original Lotus 7, but it's is not really a replica, wherever I think I could have improved on the original I have, things like the engine and all-round double-wishbone suspension would be examples. You can see a pic of the suspension below - it's a big improvment over what lotus used, even caterham have only very recently switched to using the same setup:
The car has taken a lot of work, the first pic there is how I got the car, the second shows it more or less finished, it does have a silencer now! Building it, I've used parts off all kinds of cars which needed restoring. You can see an example below, what you're looking at are the front hubs which came of a 30-year-old ford cortina just because it uses wishbone suspension which makes them suitable!
The engine itself has taken a bit of work to adapt it for use in a car too, it's definitely been worth it though - one huge advantage is you get a rally-style sequential dog-gearbox - instant gearchanges - that ferrari is slipping further and further behind! I've fitted stronger clutch parts to handle the extra weight, a baffled sump to stop oil surge and a unrestrictive intake/exhaust to boost peak power.
That's all I'm going to say here - I could go on about the bling like wilwood brakes/titanium silencer/etc but this car is all about function over form. I know the whole "street-legal-racecar" cliche is overdon e but I think you'll agree that this is the real deal.
Below are 2 of my fav pics - the first shows my other pride-and-joy for rainy days, the second you can just about make out the rev-counter which i really like cause the redline comes in at 11,000rpm! Carbon-fibre dashboard too - more bling!
Any that's more or less it, hope you've engoye d the read!
