Thom Voisinet's 95 Mazda Protege. This car was sold, Thom doesn't own it anymore.
The car was built for IASCA's Pro Street 1- 600 watt class, and Thom got 4th place at the 2002 IASCA finals. He recently got 2nd place at the '03 Spring Break Nationals. The car is getting old and has about 150,000 miles on it but it's holding up. The license plate is "I can't hear you," not because it's a loud stereo but because my hearing isn't so great and I ask people to repeat themselves quite often.
A J- spec front bumper and "MS Style" lip were added from Corksport. The door molding was removed and the door handles and side mirrors were painted body color.
JDM tail lights were added as well as a '98 center section.
Under the hood is kept as clean as possible.
A system voltage gauge (left), BEL radar detector (center), and amp temperature gauge (right) were added in front of the cluster. The stock gauges are trimmed by a piece of real carbon fiber.
Not visible is the 8" sub where the glove box used to be. It fires up towards the windshield from under the airbag, which was kept in order to keep the car in IASCA's Pro Street class.
The Denon DCT- Z1 was installed in the factory location with the Zapco crossover and EQ's beneath it. This allows complete tuning from the front seats- crossover points, levels for each output, and 30 bands per channel of EQ are all within reach. Momo Raptor shift knob and leather boot. The shift knob is now the Momo "Shot" carbon fiber. The Zapco EQ30's slide out of the dash for easy drivers' seat tuning.
Ring radiator tweeters from Polk high- end home speakers (LSi) were added at each side of the dash to improve the stage height and listening position. Real carbon fiber grills protect them. A dash pad was added to minimize reflections since the tweeters are mounted in the corner where the dash meets the windshield.
A Polk/ Momo MM6 mid was installed in each kick panel, without losing any floor space. Momo real carbon fiber pedals.
The trunk houses (4) Zapco Reference 200 amplifiers and a single Polk/ Momo MM124 subwoofer. The sub aims up through the rear deck. This has since been changed since this setup proved less than successfull at hitting the SPL cap at the '02 IASCA finals.
The trunk has since been changed. The (4) Zapco 200's remain, but the sub box was changed and now holds a new Polk/ Momo MM2124 12" sub. The spare tire was retained since the car is a daily driver.
