This is my 1966 Ford Galaxie 500
It has 25,000 original miles and was owned by an older woman for 10 years before being passed on to her nephew. Her nephew, my dad's best friend in high school drove it a bit but had a taste for German cars so he parked the Galaxie next to his house in the woods and set his bbq grill on the trunk and it never moved again since the early 80's. Fast forward 20 years, I came to do Indinapolis to stay with my grandma for 2 weeks and hung out with him during the day and did some car restoration. He offered me this car for $50 if I wanted it. I instantly said yes and began trying to unearth this car. After jacking it up, water began leaking out of pinholes in the rear quarter, showing that the trunk was holding water. Not only that, but the wheels were all frozen up and would not move. The end of that summer, two friends and I drove down with truck and trailer and winched it out of it's long time parking spot and towed it to Huntington, Indiana. I didn't get back to the car until a month later and after much tinkering with points and plugs and batteries, it fired up and not only that, it drove! The next year I would buy batches of parts and drive down from Kalamazoo with a tool box and jack to begin making it road worthy. Check that, amost two years later. I replaced the entire brake system, bought new tires, replaced the altenator, water pump, radiator, battery and soon had it running and driving. In november of 2004, I got dropped off with a spare tire and a tool box and drove it back to Indianapolis and then back to Detroit. What a great trip with no radio, no exhaust, no heat or gas gauge! Since then I've fixed the exhaust, heat and gas gauge and polished the original paint. Future plans include eliminating the rust, restoring the interior and painting the outside. Not sure on colors yet (two tone roof/body, orginal color or something else). Other plans are to improve the gas mileage via 5.0 enging and AOD trans or just a trans swap. Thanks for looking.
