Ah, I have purchased my sister's '92 Taurus for the princely sum of $350. I know this car well- my Grandpa bought it new, and it eventually came into the possession of my sister in '04.
Soon after she got it, the tranny failed. $1800 later, it was back on the road. Since then, she has had suspension issues, a crappy exhaust and the Essex Curse came to pass.
The "Essex Curse," you ask? That, my friend, is the term used to refer to the headgasket problem which most 3.8L Fords experience. You see, with 115K miles on the clock, the temp gauge shot up, and steam came out of the exhaust pipe. Bye bye head gaskets!
The autopsy revealed that the cause of this disaster was that the switch which turns on the electric fan failed. This set off a chain reaction: The engine overheated, the headgaskets blew (warping 1 head), and the radiator sprung a leak.
Doing this repair w/ my dad, the car was back on the road a month and 250 bucks later.
She got a new vehicle, and I needed a winter beater, so here I am! Here's a pic of my other car, a '96 Crown Vic, which I either call Zeus or the Krusty Kruiser, lol:

And finally, an update. The Taurus is gone, after spending 15 years in our family. I grew tired of trying to fix the picky problems on the car, so I sold it on CraigsList for...$250. Will add the final pictures of it later on...
