Welcome to the begining of the build pages! Here you will join me on the wonderous journey of building a race car out of a 240.
So, let's begin.
Shout out to those in the 757, and lookie what we have here. A 240 with a little something more than a welded diff and a knock off exhaust modeled after the APEX N1
Of course I know that doesn't apply to all 240s in the Virginia Beach area, but damn if there aren't a few of those disgraces running around that just piss me the hell off.
Anyways. My father an I are building a supercharged 240 with all sorts of crazy parts and whatnots that I don't even understand that he's bringin back from his days of racing Datsun 510s and such, so it'll be a pretty unique car. This is also a learning process for me, because I am a novice when it comes to deep engine stuff, but I'll be learning and plan to relay the best possible information when I make updates.
My first update is basic:
We got a mock up motor for 100 dollars from a guy that had the engine laying around with nothing on it, so we booked out to Richmond to pick it up, took it to the shop and put it on a stand. We hung the intake manifold and the alternator on it to see how much space we'd have for the pulley and decided that we're going to mount it upsidedown under the intake mani [refer to picture, its the huge gap]. So right now we're getting custom pulleys machined to fit our needs. I'll try and get measurements and such as well when it comes along.

Went to Victory Nissan today to do a little work on the car's various attributes. We rode out to East Coast Z to see Barry, and worked out a deal so get an entire rear suspension set up from a 2+2 300zx, when that gets pulled out we plan on taking two weeks max to completely overhaul the suspension, then spend a day dropping everything out of the 240 and bolting all the new stuff in. After that was done we went back to prep the motor so we could take it to the machine shop and found out what was wrong with it: blown piston. So now it seems we'll have to get a new crank machined, but luckily we know a top notch machiner in northern VA who owes us a few favors. So basically, that's what happened today. A long time coming, but it's getting underway.

Rode back out to Chesapeake today and returned to East Coast Z. We rolled up and Barry told us to pick a car, which we did, so he got the forklift ready. He keeps his forklift safe by letting the tire go flat and the battery die, because otherwise someone would hop the fence and take it. So we bullshitted around for like 45 minutes as we waited for the forklift, talked about how fucked up america was, shit like that. Long story short, we lifted a 300zx 2+2, dropped the entire rear end out of it diff and all, and took it with us. Now all we have to do it get started on taking it apart.

Checked out the engine again today, closer inspection revealed at the head is effed up thanks to the blowing as the afformentioned piston. Good times. So now we'll have to find a new head...unless we want one machined, which is tons of money. I plan on finding a used one in good shape. Anyways. Mainly been lookin at engine build shit, there's a nice rebuild kit from Jim Wolf Technology for like 3 grand, that'd be sweet but unlikely. I can dream though.

Yesterday I found out that someone had tried to kill me. My car had been idling funny for about a week, and all of a sudden yesterday my brakes went stiff as a board. I was confused, to say the least, so when I popped the hood...the problem was evident. The vaccum tube that pressurized my brakes had been cut. Broken? No. Cut on purpose, it's a very clean snip. I fixed it, but that is completely absurd. If I find out who did it, they will suffer for this outrage. Anyways, today Chuki developed another miss but I'm not surprised, my KA likes to eat injectors. This'll be the third one since I bought it.

Random update because I'm bored. We've been working on the house mostly so progress with the 240 has ceased for the time being. As the house is the only project more important than the 240, it is being focused on for now until it's completion. She's running alright, no worse than she normally does, and no random problems have sprung up as of late. I'm selling a vortech V2 supercharger kit for about 2 grand, just waiting for the guy to get back to me on that. With the money we'll be buying hubs, rotors, the lower end of the rear suspension to fit the 300zx connectors...and my spoiler. Probably some other stuff too, but all that will be around 1200 .

Difficultly I've come to the decision to buy another car and leave my 240 at the shop while we work on it slowly but surely. I had hoped we would be able to do it bit by bit and the car wouldn't be off the road for more than a day at a time. However, the car is slowly degrading as I drive it, I'm bangin on it so hard it's making it worse before I make it better...and the progression does not balance out the regression. On the bright side though, I may be getting one of my other dream cars, a 1979 Datsun 280zx. So all is not lost.

Didn't end up selling the supercharger, or find a new car sooo I don't know exactly what's goin on. However, I did finally manage to begin working on the 240 a bit and get the rust on the sunroof patched up. I sanded the rust down and patched up the holes with resin and fiberglass. Its set now and watertight, tomorrow I'll apply bondo and get it sanded down and eventually I'll scuff the whole roof and paint it in satin black. Just for fun.

Been a while since I've updated, so I'll just give ya'll a quick summary of my current going ons. Someone is looking at the supercharger so hopefully I'll manage to get the money off of that, and I went to Corolla, NC today to take a gander at a '78 280z. It's in decent shape, it's got the typical Datsun rust problems, but they're not as bad as the ones we've already seen. The motor is in top-notch condition, and the interior ain't too bad either. It's really the motor that's the big draw, but hopefully he'll be smart and take our offer. I can patch the rust and sand down the car, make it nice and smooth, cover it in black primer or matte black paint and give it a run for a year or so until the 240 is done. Hopefully that'll work. School starts soon, I'm signing up for classes tonight, and I need to find a new job lol. So there's my update!

So I finally got a lucky streak and found a car for me to drive while I fix Chuki. 1000 bucks for this nice little 89 coupe in Ferrari black. It's an auto SOHC but whatever, the damn thing's straight and undented, with perfect interior. I'll be picking it up Monday or Tuesday. It needs a few things, namely an intake, fuel pump, a battery, and a fuel line...but that's alright. All that's cheap. I shall call it...Shadow.
July 13th, 2009:.
Shadow arrived today and now sits comfortably in my driveway. I'll be installing the intake the guy sold it with tomorrow during my day off and see what I can do about some of the panelling he let go with it. I'll need a fuel pump, fuel line, and wheels/tires. So...providing I can get everything I need in a timely manner, I should be rollin around in Shadow within the next week or so. Let's hope. I find it highly ironic that all my efforts for the past...nearly two months....have been for naught, and then all of a sudden I stumble across another 240 coupe and end up owning it in less than three days. It would appear that I am destined to own only 240 coupes.

Working on getting Shadow running, but I ordered Chuki's engine management system from Enjuku, it's made by AEM. The guy I talked to liked the sound of my build and threw in three extra exhaust sensors for free, took off shipping, and gave me a 20 dollar off coupon; he saved me about 200 bucks. Also, Dad got permission from his GM at Victory Nissan to use part of the shop as Chuki's build area. We plan on making video blogs of the build so people can watch it's progress, so look out for that. All in all, good things are being done.

Not too terribly much going on on the car front at the moment, everything rests on getting Shadow running. A small update, I did order an S14 Silvia K's spoiler that I'm going to mold to Chuki's trunk when the time comes. I'm really pleased with it, I sat it on Shadow to get an idea for how it'd look and it's awesome, looks just like the one Chuki's got just taller and wider. Very nice.
