This is my '87 Plyouth Turismo "Duster" (obviously)

**Contemplating engine swap, any suggestions?**

I purchased this car in 2007 in "as-is" condition for $100 from a good friend. When we first started the car we noticed a few flaws. The car made a load clicking noise, (electronic fuel pump), idled at 2,000 rpms, and we could hear a valve tapping in the first cylinder...
The following steps have been taken in corective measure.
New (old) Carb.
New (old) head (rebuilt spare head)
replaced exhaust and intake manifolds.
New spark plugs, wires.

Car runs with little trouble now but is getting 17 mpg. I beleive the new/old carb needs work.
Car lacks power, could be auto trans in conjunction with 96 hp...

I plan on modding the car to improve horsepower and fix fuel efficiency problem.

I would like to swap the trans for an A555 manual this summer at the very least.

Ive seen a guy with an awesome 84 turismo that was converted to fuel injection, that also seems like an option.

After mechanics are fixed i plan on giving the duster a new paint job and cosmetic repairs.

If any one has any advice or tips on any mods (especially to A555 or chrysler tubo II) PLEASE feel free to message me.

New Pics will be updated as mods are completed

I had an 87 just like the one you are showing here. Great cars was the first real vehicle dad bought me after the "test my driving jalopy". I agree with the fuel injection tip from above as the carbs, to the best of my knowledge, had several problems anyway. Mine was finicky as well I I believe that would have helped a bunch. Find another 87 like that send it my way I'm tryin to find one to keep for my son so he can drive the same style I did in 96 13 years from now. Good luck!

yes I think fuel injection would be great for it, thats what Im going to do to my 86 turismo. Luckily my dad builds his own fuel injection and is working fine on two other cars and wow does it make a difference, no trouble with idling and I dont know where you live but here in Nebraska starting up in the cold is a little difficult with a carburetor and maybe depending on the circumstances you might even get better mpg
