So this is my latest acquistion. 1968 M715, all stock drivetrain. Got this truck Jan 07 and have been wrenching on it since I bought it. So far I have only started welding up all the holes in the body. There are alot of holes, but no rust. This truck was originally used by the Army, but was bought by the Bayville, New Jersey Fire Dept. They then added the cage that you see and made it into a brush truck. On eof the officers bought for himself when she was retired from service and used it for offroading. My plan is to use it for the purpose myself, but updating everyting. With the size of the cage and how much it welded to the body panels and frame it doesn't pay to try and remove it and try to do a military resto. The wiring has been hacked together, so that will be addressed as soon as I get all my fab work done. Plans for the future include, D60 front axle, 14 bolt rear axle, spring over,42 inch tires, TBI chevy motor, SM465 or NV 4500 trans(depends on cost) and a 205 tcase. My biggest projects at the moment are to get an original or Jtruck gas tank and get rid of the boat tank in the bed, install side windows(has none) windshield wipers(has none) rewire properly, (currently cobbled together by previous owner), heat and air conditoning(has neither)install guages(only water temp works).
As you can see it's going to be a long road but well worth it.
So far I have removed some of the cage I don't like, installed headlites, I'll do writeup about that, and removed alot of the bad wiring. I will be installing a wiring harness from a Grand Wagoneer and will do the write up on that when it's time. As of Jan 07 just getting the bed straightned out. A can not remove the bed or front clip as they are welded to the cage and to try and remove them and reweld will probably result in a disaster, so this will be all done with everyting attached. Should be interesting.

Here is what the fron end looked like when I got it. No headlite just driving lights, so I bought a set of CJ headlites and trim rings off Ebay for 10 bucks and went ahead and installed them. Here's how it went
then I had to fab up some small tabs to actually install the lites
after that I was able to install them and I even found the original 715 trim rings in the bed!
much better now. check back as I will try to update once a week
So here is the mess of the bed and tailgate. As you can see, lots of holes to patch up.
As I got it

and after a little work
