So, my 1966 VW Bug. I got this things when I was twelve, from this guy who had a shed with about five VW's in it. This one was the best one, and he really didn't want to sell it... he finally did, and then we got to go through four months of DMV visits to clear its title. That was fun. I'm not really sure how it got to our house, I came home from school and it was sitting in our driveway, that was a nice surprise. I imagine it was towed there, it didn't run at the time, wouldn't even turn over since the bigger than stock engine had too much compression for the 6 volt starter motor to turn over. Upgraded the electrical system to 12 volts (and man does that 6 volt starter crank.) Anyway, over the last four years I didn't have a job, and with very little money I managed to rebuild the brakes. I finally got a job last summer (movie theatre) and earned enough money to get all the parts to rebuild the suspension and put an actual interior in it (and a large stereo so I can go deaf at an early age.) so with the help of a couple friends we tore the front and rear suspension apart and rebuilt them. (New rubber everywhere, new ball joints and tie rod ends.) Pulled the engine and put in new transmission mounts, and now it's ready to go, though its still got some kinks to work out. Hopefully I can get more money this summer to get dual port heads and dual carburators, right now its 1.6 litre engine only has about 50 HP. (And still gets crappy gas milage.)
Oh, it's also too light, some hicks at school once thought it would be funny to pick up the front of it and turn it around... needless to say I don't park near them anymore.
