Here's where it all started, pics of the car PRE-restoration. This gives a good look at what once was and a reference to what is now a mean machine. As you can see it wasn't even a full car when the project was started.

Here are the exterior shots of the car as it sits today. There are a few additions to the stock appearance of the car.
One of my favorite mods was the front air dam which was made by MSA and its urethane not fiberglass so it won't crack if i get a little too close to a curb when parking ;)

Other exterior mods include the fiberglass rear spoiler which really sets off the rear end of the car from other Z's on the road. I find it really finishes the car and gives it an even great 'sports' car feel to it

The car also has MSA molded splash guards front and rear to help protect the lower rocker panels and rear quater panels and look pretty decent IMO as well. Speaking of the paint its a PPG colour (3794 basecoat) Chevy Bright Red covered with PPG 2082 clear for great shine and protection.

The interior of the car looks stock and for the most part is original. The factory seats are still in fantastic shape for their age. New carpets and door panels were installed and look great. A new steering wheel and steering column were installed for a sportier look and feel (smaller diameter wheel= better response with less input from the driver). Also new is the shift knob and leather shift boot, both factory-like items but just newer and better loking. It has custom "Z" floor mats for an added touch as well. For my safety's sake the car has a roll bar added which is covered as so not to be noticed but there if I ever need it. There is a stereo in the car a Jensen deck and some cheap 6x9's in the rear hatch in boxes. This is my first project with the car to do this year as I am used to a higher level of SQ from my stereo. At this point I'm thinking of going with Focals up front and a kicker L7 in the trunk (only 8" so its not too intrusive) powered by a small 4channel amp... anyway here are some pics as of right now

The engine is a Datsun factory L28 block with P79 head on it. The motor has just been refreshed not too long ago but with performance parts added to it. The cam is not stock but much more aggressive on the idle so it has a nice lope to it which turns heads nicely, specs are: Schneider cam- .460 valve lift, 270 intake duration, 280 exhaust duration. The head was rebuilt and had a 3angle valve grind done as well as all new valvetrain. With a different cam we went to different carbs for it as well, they are dual SU carbs with performance needles and obviously rebuilt for the motor. Under the carbs is the N33 intake manifold which isn't to be forgotten either ;)
From there I will go to the exhuast which is totally done. Off the head there is the MSA 6-1 Header which collects into a MSA 2.5" straight through exhaust finished by a turbo muffler and stainless tip. This adds a nice growl on the highway and a headturning sound when in town. I'm sure I'll get noticed with this in my neighborhood.
Here are a few pics of the engine bay

Last but not least is the suspension. This car is riding on 17" Konig Imagine rims with 215/45ZR17 rubber. The style of rim actually goes with the older style of the car even though they are a plus sized rim. The sway bars were replaced with MSA sways, 1" front and 7/8" rear so it sits flat throughout corners. It also is lowered with MSA springs and is using KYB strut inserts for dampening. All bushings and endlinks were replaced with Energy Suspension parts for a complete overhaul. For added support there is also a solid rear strut tower bar in the interior.
I don't have any pics of the undercariage so you can't really see this stuff... so here's a few random other pics

Anyway that's all there is for now. I'm sure that I'll add more as I add more to the car or once I start taking it to shows.

Comments are always welcome.

Cheers

Wow, your car is amazing! I have a 1976 280z that I am building in Winnipeg, can you tell me how you did the door panels or better yet would you build me a set and I'll buy them off you! Amazing car!

hey i'm starting work on a 78 280z.... it's all original and in great condition but i'm having some trouble getting speakers in the doors... the panels are too shallow and it looks like you've built your panels out... how did you do that? also where'd you find your spoiler? it reminds me of a 78 camaro spoiler and i can't find one anywhere
