As you can see...this datsun 710 is already a magnet for girls...... :)

I have been doing some repairs to the car. One of the tail lights had a separated lense. The lense and the assembly are glued together,in the effect that a lense is broken, a new assembly would have to be purchased.
My tailght

was going to break were it been left alone. I took the assembly home and separated the remaining last plastic pin that keept it in place. The lense was separated but for about 20% of the lense. Water and dirt invaded the reflector area. It needed thorough cleaning. The assembly after removal of the electrical wiring was dipped in warm soapy water. Lots of dirt.

Upon final separation of the lense from the assembly, real cleaning begun.

The mating surface was full of gunk and dried glue.

Apparently the lense was repaired ( attempts made ) by ading more glue to a chaotic mating section. The lense could not sit properly, hence it never got repaired properly. The following pictures will show the mating surface on both lense and plastic frame to go from completely covered in gunk to a clean ready to mate assembly and lense. This is how the channel ( where the lense was to fit and sit within the plastic frame ) looked before the clean up. Black dried up glue of several different brands cloggin the mating area.

The lense was not sitting properly and part of it, the remaining 20% was properly in place, but the rest 80% was ouit of place and warping the lense. First I cleaned the lense edges and mating surface. here we can see how cleaned it got.

. The same chanels that bore excesive amounts of dried up and useless gunk now look clear. It took a good amount of Acetone and a scraper as well as metallic brushes to finally get rid of the yucky stuff.
