ENGINE/TRANSMISSION

This page is for the engine, transmission, exhaust, etc. upgrades.

DavidsNova's 1970 Chevrolet Nova

Engine

The engine in this Nova is a stock Chevy 350 with some minor modifications:

Original Info and Minor Modifications:

DavidsNova's 1970 Chevrolet NovaWhen I got the car, I had been having overheating problems due to a lack of a fan shroud. Therefore I bought a fan shroud and installed it. Solved that problem. I also put Chrome moroso valve covers and an Edelbrock air cleaner on it and painted the engine compartment flat black. My first performance parts went on in late 2005. I installed Dynomax headers and Summit mufflers. I later replaced the mufflers with 3 inch Dynomax Bullets.
The next major performance mod was installing an Edelbrock performer intake manifold and Demon 625 carb. The motor also had an MSD Blaster 2 coil and K+N air filter.

Carb Spacer

I switched from a open carb spacer to a four hole spacer because it is good for about 2 tenths in the quarter mile. I gained almost 3 tenths.

New Valve Covers

I bought some Mickey Thompson valve covers from a swap meet in March 2007, for $40.

Ignition Upgrades

I put a new HEI distributor in the car, along with new Summit spark plug wires. It ran very well.

TRANSMISSION

The stock transmission was a Powerglide, column shift. But in 2006, I traded my old bench seat for a Turbo 400. The only problem was the pump was out on it. My neighbor gave me another Turbo 400 and I installed it in November. It already had a B&M shift kit in it and I put a 2400 stall B&M torque converter in it and I am using a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter as well.
