1987 TurboStang
These pages are devoted to my son's and my current project - 1987 Convertible TurboStang! Hopefully, if all goes well, we will be detailing the buildup of our 1987 Mustang LX convertible on these pages. We will be swapping the entire drivetrain from a donor car, a 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. The actual swap will be taking place from now through the summer and fall of 2009. We are now currently in the process of accumulating parts and info. We hope to get everything finished over the next month, so it'll be ready for the summer of 2010. Let's see if we are successful!
We purchased the Mustang a while ago for $1100. It came just like you see it in the pictures. It had 44k on the odometer when we bought it. Don't know if that was 144k or 244k, but it sure wasn't 44k!
We had to replace brakes, exhaust from the catylitic converter back and put some tires on it to make it road worthy. We gave it a good cleaning, and my son has been using it as his daily driver!
The car's stock condition is as follows:
1987 Mustang LX Convertible
2.3L 4 Cylinder Engine

The donor car is a 1988 TurboCoupe (purchased for $200 on Ebay) with 125k on the odometer. Previous owner told me that the motor was rebuilt or replaced at about 75k. Motor has a leaking freeze out plug. The TurboCoupe has a 5 speed tranny and 8.8 rear. Engine starts right up and runs solid, tranny pulls in all gears. We are still going to strip everything down and rebuild it.
I will be posting some pictures soon of the donor car so everyone can see what we started with and the total rebuild in process.
Check back soon... I will be adding pictures and pages as the project develops.
