This is my 1988 Isuzu trooper."HOMER"
I bought this trooper in 1997 for $4,500.
This truck looked fantastic when I bought it but it ran and drove HORRIBLE! I have spent a great deal of time restoring and upgrading this truck and now I finally have a great daily driver. It runs and drives better than it did when it was new. These pages show some of the things I've done. And some of the things that I'm in the middle of. I am my own mechanic so only pay the cost of the parts. My site is updated regularly as the restoration seems never ending.

The time line is all messed up on this site, I assure you...every picture on here is the same truck.(except the trooper with the round headlights)that one belongs to my good friend Brian a.k.a van holman on cardomain.

The creek pictures show the new pre-cut tint that I bought on e-bay for $36.00.  The tint shop wanted $400.00 to do the job... LOL.

Old                        New

The trooper got a new mid to high rpm cam
headers and exaust size was upped to 2.25"
smog stuff removed for extra power (except egr system)
An external trany cooler for the Automatic until the 5-speed swap
An OPTIMA yellow top battery... because of the kc lights
12/10/07 the rear cargo compartment got limo lighting
BF Goodrich ko series 31x10.50 tires with new wider rims

Intake and exaust manifolds were port matched. it was a waste of time. I didn't notice any power increase.

Theres too many more upgrades to list.  The pictures say it all anyways

These shackles changed the feel of the entire truck for the better.

The trooper needed more traction. In came the new  limited slip diff. The one on the left is the stock diff the one on the right is the LSD.And a piston from a semi truck. The diff was the single best upgrade I did to this truck! If I had to do it all over, I would do the lift and the diff first. and the rear sway bar

Another angle of the diff install.  I don't like the angle the shocks are mounted. I'm going to re weld the mounts straight up and down soon. And add a rear sway bar!

Nice Truck, mine is a story that I do not have the space to write about. My question is about your motor. We have a rebuilt V6 that merely goes forward and that is about it. I am curious about what you would suggest for a swap.I will post images as soon as I can. I really appreciate your time and trouble explaining your work thus far. Any notions on a brush guard?Todd

Hello Ben, Nice job you did. I have a similar van 1988 with on of the rear brake calipers leeking. It is very difficult here in Malta to buy a new one a servicing kit. I would greatly appreciate if you could let me know were you got yours from. Best Regards and keep it up. Victor.

Nice Trooper - five stars..Question: Does an 88 Trooper have a rear sway bar? I took a quick look underneath and of course saw the front one, but is there a rear sway bar? And if so, where? Thanks!!
