1973 Ford Mustang Coupe

Mechanical
- 351 Cleveland Engine (bored to approximately 365)
- 4 bbl Holley 600cfm carb
- Edelbrock intake manifold
- 3-speed Automatic transmission
- Dual 2.25" Aluminum Exhaust
- DynoMax Mufflers
- K&N Intake air filter
- Summit Racing 8000 RPM Tachometer
- Pushing approximately 380 HP

Electrical
- Avital Champion Mark III Alarm
- Pioneer DEH-P8000R CD Headunit with RDS and OEL Display
- Boston Acoustics 5.4 Pro Components in front doors
- Boston Acoustics 6.4 Pro Components in rear deck using 5.4 crossovers
- Boston Acoustics 10.4 Subs in separate sealed enclosures
- Xtant 3300x Amplifier powering entire system
- Factory 55 Amp Alternator! (Upgrade due soon)

System Description:
The subs are wired in parallel so that the impedance sums to 2 ohms. Using the 'rear output' option on the Xtant amp, the rear speakers receive the same signal as the front ones, but attenuated 12dB. I used Boston 5.4 Pro crossovers on the rear speakers so that the crossover points are the same throughout the car, even though I used 6.4 components in the rear deck (the 6.4 set would not fit in the front doors). With this 'rear output', it parallels the front and rear speakers, so that the impeadance is down to 2 ohms, but the rear speakers have the switchable attenuation right on the amplifier, creating a balanced soundstage from front to rear.

ck_man's 1973 Ford MustangMy Mustang and I, May 1997. It's been dubbed 'The Green Beast', for several reasons. 1) It's the right color of money, and it certainly sucks it in. 2) The beast part comes from the volume of it (between the stereo and the exhaust), and because it eats the 5.0 (aka five-slow) for lunch. 3) This Beast is anything but slow, and I get 15 mpg on top of it all!

ck_man's 1973 Ford MustangThis was prior to the 5.4 components and DEH-P8000R headunit. In this picture, the front speakers being used were still Boston Acoustics CX3 in the dash, and the headunit was a Pioneer KEH-P8600R. The headunit has been moved into my truck, and the CX3s still reside in the dash, but just not hooked up. As soon as I go to install my tachometer, I'll pull the CX3s. The order in the dash (from top to bottom) is: Vents, Mustang nameplate, headunit, and then HVAC controls.

ck_man's 1973 Ford MustangIn December of 1999, traveling north on Maryland Rt. 10. About 70 miles per hour or so. You can't see the stereo in this pic, but I guarantee it was running! I had a digital camera for the weekend, and I set it on the dash and snapped the picture. Voila! A lot of people have asked if they can drive my car. Well, sorry, but no. This is the closest you'll get. :-)

OK, I know I don't have any pictures of the system posted here, but at least you might be able to see the car (assuming it doesn't take too long to load). I'm working on the new system, and I'll post some old/ new pics when I get them, and when the new system is up and running. The car is now 27 years old, and is registered with the Maryland DMV with Historic tags (for cars 25 and older). I'm limited to a certain amount of miles per year, but it doesn't get driven too much anyway - only on the occasional nice day. My truck serves as my daily driver, and I recently retired my original "Silver Bullet" Silverado with over 315,000 miles on it! I now have a 1995 Silverado with 115k miles, and that will soon have its own install page here too.
