The first thing I did was to get the dealer to redo the seats and door trim in leather (couldn't go back to cloth seats after having leather in the BMW). Here's how it came out:
I then replaced the stock head unit with a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 Navigation/DVD system. The resolution on the display is incredible, and being able to copy CD's onto the hard drive and control everything through voice commands is great. It also had the added benefit of really improving the sound. I used a double DIN dash kit from Scosche. The color looks a little off in this picture, but that's just from the flash on my crappy camera. In person, it's the same color as stock.
While I was at it, I added the Pioneer adapter to connect, control and charge my iPod through the head unit and a bluetooth adapter to make calls and talk on my cell phone through the headunit and speakers. Makes driving around in Houston traffic much easier.
The iPod connects and charges in the armrest compartment. You can see the adapter mounted to the side of the compartment behind some of my stuff.
I originally lost my steering wheel radio controls when I installed the aftermarket head unit. This really bugged me, so I installed the PAC SWI-PS adapter to get them back.
One problem with the Tacoma is all the road noise. It's not insulated very well, and it got a little loud on the highway. The doors didn't sound solid when they closed, and when it rained, it sounded like it was raining on a tin roof. So I sound deadened the entire interior with double-layered HushMat and Ensolite (floor, firewall, headliner, rear wall, pillars, doors). It's ridiculously quiet now, and the truck feels a lot more solid. Sorry, no pictures.
Most Houston cops don't have anything better to do than to write traffic tickets (when I got in a really bad car accident recently, it took them almost 2 hours to show up, but they're all over you if you leave your driveway without a front plate). So, I got an Escort Passport 8500 X50 (red display), which I hardwired into my overhead console for power.
To give me some more light when I first get into the truck, I wired my map lights in the overhead console to automatically fade on and off with the dome light when opening and closing the doors.
I recently installed and MSD Ignition Dash Hawk OBD scanner tool, which gives you a lot of useful information from your ECU. Now, I can diagnose error codes and read fuel trim and O2 levels to help me tune my truck. I mounted it in the cubby underneath the A/C controls in front of the shifter using textured ABS plastic. The flash on my crappy makes it look a lot lighter than the rest of the dash, but in person, it's a perfect match.

It's always good to have a flashlight around, but I hate cluttering up my glove compartment or having it slide around in one of the other storage compartments. I mounted some brackets on the side of my seat for easy access.
Last, I dig the blue lighting for V-dub instrument gauges, so I got "Jotaro" from toyotanation.com to switch out the orange LED's for blue. Not only does it look good, but it matches the blue backlighting of the Pioneer Avic Z1. I'll post up pics when I take some.
