1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL (113 Body) "Mr. Slim"
6 Cylinder, 4 Speed Manual Transmission

I went to see a guy selling an MGB, and when I got to his
place, he had a number of project cars going on. So, I asked him about the MGB, but before showed it to me, he just happened to ask me if I'd be interested in another car. So I asked, what car. He led me to the end of his garage and there was a car cover on a vehicle that was lifted on blocks. The wheels were off, and apparently it was a project in progress. When he removed the car cover, he unveiled this 1969 Mr. Slim. It was in pretty bad shape, but I figured if the price was alright, why not. He showed me the trunk and said that all the parts were there, and only some cosmetic parts were missing. To cut a long story short, my excitement got the better of me, and I went home an owner of a project '69 Mr. Slim. The story of this restoration project can be quite lengthy, so I'll just mention a couple of discoveries and details. When I brought the car home it was burgundy, but when we stripped the paint in preparation for the paint restoration, we found out that it was previously black, and originally, it was white before that. It seems that the previous owners of this car didn't do a very thorough job with the paint, and so at the time I got the car, it had about three coats of paint and putty on it. It was so thick that the sleek hard lines of the body were less pronounced and somewhat dulled or rounded. I tell you, when we stripped the car, the whole vehicle propped itself up. No wonder the car's suspension seemed like it was sagging or "lowered" since it was carrying all that weight. Originally it had a tan interior. It came with the original steel rims and hub caps, but I fitted the car with these alloy wheels from a later model MB. The exterior chrome trimmings of the car are complete... except for the small, tiny, one-inch piece of chrome which joins the chrome around the front windscreen on top, because this tiny piece costs 100 Euros or about $130, brand new from a dealer in Germany. I was going to try to find a decent used on for cheaper, but before I could get to it, a guy insisted on buying the car from me. So anyway, here are pictures of the car after I restored it. Awesome engine, very powerful, crazy fast! One of the most elegant cars ever in my opinion, and the compliments I got from people on the road and from friends and relatives were countless and endless.
