This is my Ford Escort RS2000. I bought it almost 6 years ago and used it up until a few months ago as my daily driver. It was almost 100% original when I bought it. When I started looking for an RS2000 I just wanted something fairly standard that wasn't too modified. That was back in 1998. Every one I looked at had extractors or custom interior or horrible aftermarket steering wheel. Even this was fitted with a stereo and alarm, but other than that it was good. It had the original engine with standard exhaust and factory air-cleaner.
I drove it for a few years like that until I had a few problems with the ignition, so I fitted a pointless system that has worked faultlessly. I then did something stupid and did the bottom end bearings when an unnoticed oil leak drained the sump. I bought another Escort to get around in while I fixed up the RS. This had a fully worked 2lt engine, but unfortunately standard brakes and suspension....Rather than fixing my RS, I spent most of my time changing diffs in this car has it was pumping out more torque than the 25 year old rear end could handle. In the end, I pulled the motor out and put it in the RS2000. Probably not the smartest move, but at least the RS was back on the road.
I'm currently setting the car up to go on the track, fitting Capri struts and twin weber carbies. It should be good for about 160bhp, not bad for a car that only ways 900kg.
