This is the car I competed in my first rally in. It has nothing special under the bonnet apart from a set of very rusty extractors and a twin barrel downdraft carburettor. Due to the fact that it was a beginners rally, it means that I don't have to have a rollcage installed.
The six months before the rally were spent fixing the car up. It seemed that the more we fixed, the more things went wrong. Radiator leaks, leaky exhausts, leaky fuel systems. In fact the wheels were literally falling off the car! But we got it sorted in time and got to the rally.
It started off well, I felt like I could use a bit more power though. There was a small fuel pickup issue to start off with but it sorted itself out on the road. Stage 1 I managed to finish about 8th, halfway through the field in a underpowered car. By the end of the stage there were no brakes left so I had to gear brake for Stage 2.
Unfortunately I only made it halfway through stage 2, I hit a big bump which sent the fan into the radiator, overheating the engine and prematurely ending my first rally. Was still worth the effort and I intend on giving it another go when I get time.
