Okay, so I have decided on what my next project will be. I am taking my 1995 Camaro and turning it into pretty much a full on race car. I never drive the car anymore, and have always wanted to do something special with it.

Here it is with the headlight covers. Those are no longer on the car. I'll be replacing them with plexiglass clear covers.

The interior, radio, speakers, etc will be coming out. When it is done, there will be a dash, a shifter bezel of some kind, two racing seats with harnesses, a roll cage, and it will all be painted gloss black. I'll put rubber mats in the floor. After all my lightening is complete, I'm hoping for it to be around 2900-3000lbs dry.

The engine will consist of the current 60 degree 3.4L V6, but modified. I will be using the stock block, forged rods, crank, etc. I will be replacing the cast iron heads with fully ported and polished, larger valved 3100 series aluminum heads. I'll have to use a 3100/3400 intake manifold too.

I still need to find the right pistons to get my compression ratio to around 8.5-9:1 because with my stock pistons/new heads it will be around 12.xx:1. With the 3100 pistons/heads it will still be 9.6:1, which is a little too high for my purposes.

Add to that a T61 (or slightly larger) turbo and lots of custom piping. For tuning I'll use my laptop and the Megasquirt 2 standalone if using an FMU, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and larger injectors won't do the trick.

An MSD dis-4 will be upgrading the stock ignition.

The 4l60e will be rebuilt, upgraded, and have a shift kit installed. When the tranny goes back in, a higher stalling torque converter will go in with it. I'll also be putting in an aluminum driveshaft and an upgraded LSD rear end with the stock 3.23 gear ratio.

The suspension will get fully upgraded. Stiffer springs/dampers, and polyurethane bushings all around.

As for the exterior, I'm going the $50 paint job route (rustoleum stops rust and mineral spirits). I have already started working on painting the roof black, and it is coming along well, when I get a chance to work on it. I think a paint scheme such as this will be about what I do:

Keep in mind, this is just a crappy air brushing I did in GIMP. The real deal will look SO much better.

When it is completed, I expect somewhere in the neighbourhood of 400whp/480wtq on 101 octane and ~10-12psi on the size of turbo I will be using. I also expect quarter mile times well into the 11s with a drag limited top speed of around 175mph.

Keep in mind, it will be a lightweight, fully modified race car. This project will start fully when I get back in May. This way I can leave the Focus alone and work solely on this as a performance car. Keep checking back, this is going to be an interesting build.
