Here is my 1991 Syclone number 1052. I always wanted one of these trucks since I was in high school. When they came out there was one on the local GMC dealers lot. Problem was these trucks were in the high twenty thousand dollar range. About 4 years ago I found this one in Washington but it wasn’t in the best shape so I bought it and brought it home and was gonna do some minor mods to it. Next thing I know, it turned into a full restore. I started with replacing every possible tie rod, shock ,bolt, nut ,washer, bushing, brake lines, rotors and even the stickers and rubber stops in the gas tank door. All factory GM parts. Window moldings glass etc etc Just about every other possible part.

So then I wanted to redo the body a little. Next thing I know, I completely stripped the truck to bare metal with chemical stripper. What a nightmare job that was.The box had a little hidden rust I was gonna repair but instead bought a used box from south Carolina that was rust free, and completely painted the whole truck door jams etc and did the whole frame. Next, I decided to make it run a little better. The only mod I did was a bigger turbo, injectors, a torque converter and a custom chip. The truck went in the 11s.

It ran strong for 2 years and finally the stock 10 plus year old oil pump gave out and it spun a bearing so I decided to rebuild,so i contacted Jim Thomas of Thomas Race Engines in Syracuse Ny. I started by converting the block to a 4 bolt main with billet caps line honed with ARP fasteners next installed eagle rods with JE pistons and rings, topped it off with new style vortec heads with the big 2.02 1.60 valves with 1.5 full roller rockers and a custom camshaft, also installed 75 pound a hour injectors which the factory ecm still controls, and to top it off it has a GTQ67 turbo flowing through a custom front mount intercooler. The stock trans def would not of taken much from this motor combo so it has a John Waller built 700r4 with cryo treated parts and various updated components, with 3500 STALL Art Carr converter. The truck has full MSD ignition with a 2 step for launching the truck. I run VP 116 fuel at all times at 25 to 27 psi of boost and it runs very strong.

To stop the truck I made a hydroboost system out of a Astro van work which makes it stop on a dime, The truck is very fast and I have only ran it 2 times with this new motor as I went to my local track and first time off the trailer it went 10.9 with a 1.52 60 ft there is more tune left in her and some other tweeks, i am guessing maybe mid 10s or so,but they wouldn’t let me run no more because I don’t have the proper safety gear. The truck is a blast and real fun on the street it is almost just about unbeatable on the street because of the power and the awd system. I have never been beat EVER with this truck I have beat numerous high powered cars including street bikes "crotch rockets" by the time the light changes and the other guys realizes it, the Syclone is 5 cars up the street.
