My dad and I are co-owners of a 1969 mini...there is a pretty cool story behind it all so here it goes:
As far as we know the mini was rallyed or planned to rally in Saskatchewan, Manitoba. The owners there swapped the mini motor for a Pontiac firefly turbo engine. This engine just puuuuurrrrs...it took some sub frame work and engine mount modification to get it all to fit in that tiny engine bay, but it was done pretty tidely, without any mods to the firewall. They have had to cut a little off the lower spoiler of the bonnet, and have had to bend the grill for the turbo but all in all a good job. And it brings the HP up to 100. It also has a firefly 5 speed tranny swap.
The mini brakes were replaced with all disc brakes off of a 87 VW Jetta to give it the stopping power it needs. Plus it gives it a 13 inch rim, which is a few inches bigger than the original mini, fill sup those wheel wells!
The interior was stripped and the dash is still quite a mess. A sunroof was put in by the second owner. Even the e-brake was removed, which painfully will have to be equipped again...will def. be worth it for some e turns.
It was bought for a pretty penny from an Ontraio collector and was freighted here...he has held onto it a few years, while overseas he decided to get rid of it.
Here is the crazy part...my dad has an MG midget now so he frequents some British Car Forums, and came across it before anyone else...*FREE MINI* Yep...free. So this mini was free...we had to drive 30 min to get it and had it trailered home with a friends trailer...all of 20 bucks in gas!
