sorry i dont have my guestbook open but from bad experiences in the past i wont leave it open due to a few negative people that had too much time on their hands and wanted to ruin everyone else's fun , it worked ! to the one's that responded to the dart before i realized it was still on , thank you .

this is my 68 dart sedan . madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart this is the old engine in the following pic , it may get this engine back in it for a while again but will get a hemi in it again also . read on and learn the whole story .

back in winchester (near temecula and hemet ) california in 1995 -96 i had sold the body to my friend bryan holloway and then built a full cage , narrowed a 8-3/4" 4.10 gear rearend, built a 440 with '67 915 heads for this car , at that time it had these heavy huge hemi type direct connection rods that weigh 1019 grams each , to give you an idea of how heavy that is , they are so heavy that 10 eagle or scat or other 780 gram rods equal what 8 of these weigh !
they are coming out now ! i wanted him to get some crower rods back then but the customer is always right ? . i also wanted him to get it o-ringed but that didn't happen , he was told by everyone that fel pros 1009 gasket would hold up to any nos we could throw at it ? WRONG ! (YOU'LL READ ABOUT THAT LATER ) we took it out a couple times with leaf springs and the car ran high 10.70's at 124 mph at sea level (carlsbad) and 11.00's at 120 at lacr which is a high altitude track . bryan used the nos big shot plate it had on it at the time (it is GETTING a double cross big shot plate currently ) and the left side leaf spring bent the front eye , it also broke the ring gear on that run . i ended up putting in a new set of gears and a spool to go with the with moser axles it already had and also put in a chris alston chassisworks 4 link and koni coil over shocks to solve the leaf spring bending problem and make the car more adjustable since bryan planned on running a b1 engine later on . i moved to michigan soon after i got the 4 link finished in the car in in the winter of 1997

bryan called me a few years later needing to sell the car, it had sat on jack stands with the new 4 link , new coil overs , new e.t. street tires , new gears , spool etc .

he tried to sell the car at woodly park at spring fling and the other swap meets in so cal. area turn key for 10k but none of the fools believed the car would go 10's on the 11" tires through the mufflers and that it would go in the 9's at 135+ mph on the nos so he asked if i wanted to buy it . i had just re-financed the fixer upper house we bought so i was ready for the car at that time and said hell yes ! i bought it , had it shipped out and took it right to the track .IT LOOKED PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS THIS PIC ACCEPT IT DIDN'T HAVE THE WHEELIE BARS OR CHUTE AND IT HAD THE MILODON PAN WITH THE 440

madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart

it ran a 10.70 at 124 mph in hot humid weather and then when i squeezed it , the car went a best of 9.85 at 139 mph but the track was not prepped very well at the time so it spun very bad ! i only had a 1.53 60 ft time on a couple of my runs that were in the 9's so that tells you how bad it was spinning since it was in the 1.42 range on a decent run otherwise . madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart
with a mph of 139 the car should have run as quick as 9.35 to 9.40 or so so i need to go to a track where they have better traction and see how it works ? that's why i plan to put the old engine back in and try it again . i also know taller tires will help a lot since i only had 28" tall tires back when i ran the 440 in it and it was revving past 7300 rpms in the traps which is way too high from a stock 440 crank & rods .

i ended up blowing a head gasket when using the nos and parked the car for a while since i had no garage to work on it yet . (the money i bought the car with was supposed to go for building a garage ) i ended up finding the warpig wagon for sale and wanted it more and sold the dart body to andy neal in new york minus the entire drivtrain . the drivetrain is still sitting here at my place .

i borrowed a small 2 car garage from a someone to work in and put a ray barton hemi in the dart for andy neal with a 4 speed lenco and a dana 60 rear and big 4" flowmaster mufflers madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart
that are actually quieter than i expected ,when i first put the 4" flowmasters on the car , the system had came off a b-body car andy had . it fit right under the dart perfect with no room to spare in any direction , the old set up with the 440 was 3-1/2" flowmasters, but the tips exited out the side of the car instead ,so it was much louder then ! with the 4" tips pointing at each other , they cancel out a lot of noise , this car with the big stroker hemi and 4" flowmasters , sounds like a 340 car with maybe a 3" muffler , really , it's that quiet !

when i put the hemi in the car , i had the same 11" width e.t. street tires but in a 30" tall tire on it . to get anything any taller in the car will be really tough because of the lack of room ! the stock tubs were widened 3" once before but with the 30" x 11" street treaded tire you can see in the next pic how tight they fit ! madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart

i wanted to put the 31 x 10.5w slicks to make a big difference but they are just going to be too much hassle and the 33x10.5w slicks would be even more work than those . the problem is that i would have to flat out tub the car and that's not what i want .

i know i can hook the car up on the 11"tread x 30" tall et street tire and i can always go to a 3.73 gear if needed ? i have the 30" tires in it now and they are super tight . i will have to do some work to get them to fit a little nicer .

andy's pump gas hemi had dynoed at 791 hp @6200 rpm and 742 ft lbs of tq @ 5100 rpm at ray barton's place .here is andy's engine ON THE LEFT
madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart
and on the right is my new one for the dart .

madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart
that was with good air and a bigger gary williams trick dominator carb . we had my box stock 10 year old dominator carb on the car which works great still but who knows how much power there is in the other carb ?
we ran the car a few times and even on pump gas it ran 10.01 and 10.02 at our closest track which doesn't prep very well , we would smoke the tires while leaving and pulling the wheels up , it wanted to hook so bad !

in this one you can see the car move since it's a GIF (moving pic) , you can see the smoke off the tires before it picks the wheels up in the air , i saved the GIF out of the video , it smokes the tires like that on each pass at that hillbilly track because of their lack of preparation madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart

, we also foolishly had 3.54 gears in the car at the start which was too tall for the first gear in the trans . we switched to the 4.10's and went to stanton , mi. where they prep the track like crazy .the first pic at the top of the page was my first run there , the car hooked hard.

madcowl's 1968 Dodge Dart

i left the line at only 2800 rpm and it came right up on the wheelie bars , it ran a 9.90's at 135 mph on 11" wide e.t. street tires and the 4.10 gear shifting at 5800 rpm .
andy took the car back to new york that night . he ended up building a few more projects etc etc .
andy sold the engine out of the dart and traded the rolling dart back to me again so i have the car again . i now have a big shop to work on ,i have the old drivetrain (iron 440 with ported 915 heads , and 727 trans ) but i also have a hemi for the dart now too . i still need some parts for the hemi to finish it so it may take some time to get the hemi done but it's an all alum. stroker keith black block and will be 5?? cu in with a 500 hp double cross nos big shot plate , it should be good for about 1??0 hp or so ? , i did this camo job on the computer to see how it would look , i really like the look a lot and probably will end up doing it for real after all

if you go to my page 3 of the warpig page you can see more of the dart and all about my other cars and my big shop etc etc . go to this link to see more on the dart . i will have to move the dart to my main home page and the warpig to a page as a former car i owned now . go here : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/272994/3

more to come thanks , ted evans
