I used to own one of these back in the 80's and it was one of the best/funnest cars I ever owned. I had been checking eBay regularly for the past few years for one of these cars and one just came up that happened to be located only about 50 miles away. I won the auction for the princely sum of $192.53! The really neat thing about the car for sale was it was the same color (Mink Brown), same interior (tan), and was also a 2.2l turbo. I tried to find the vin number of the car I had but I couldn't find it. I thought at first it might be the very same car as the one I used to own. I mean, how many brown cars (this was the first Mink Brown one for sale I saw on eBay) that had the turbo and were shipped to New England? No other ones on CarDomain are brown either. I did some reasearch on numbers and according to this site there were 10960 Dodge 600 convertibles sold in 1984 with over 16% (1786) carrying the 'ES' package. (my old car and this one are not ES's). That leaves a total of 9174 non ES's made. According to Autozone's parts locator only 16% of the cars that year came with the turbo option. Also, a number of the cars that year came with the Mark Cross package but I have no numbers on that. I have tried to search for a more detailed production number breakdown but haven't been able to find anything. The auction also came with a spare engine/transaxle which has come in very useful. Talking to the seller it was his late wife's car. He didn't want to get rid of it but finally decided it had to go. He offered it to a couple of neighborhood kids and no one wanted it so he was all set to junk it. Someone mentioned to him to throw it on eBay and he did. Thank goodness! The car was in good enough shape that it would have been crime to junk it.

Driving the car home I found out the one big problem with it was it idled way too high. Probably about 3000rpm or even more. I couldn't kick it down or anything. Maked shifting it into gear a real bang! Went right along on the road as I needed to ride the brakes to keep it slow. After a lot of troubleshooting and tracing of vacuum lines I found the problem was a combination of a gunked up AIS (Automatic Idle Speed) control motor and a bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). With parts from the donor engine installed the car ran like a champ.

One thing my old car had was the electronic voice alert. I was able to pick one up at the junkyard and am in the process of installing it. Nothing like a car telling you "Your door is ajar"!

I've also replaced the trunk struts as I got really tired of propping the trunk up every time I opened it. Next tasks after the voice alert are to go through the mechanicals and make sure they are all functioning properly. Also, need to do some interior work (cleanup), fix the drivers door (only rust on the car is a little on the lower drivers door?), fix the driver's window that likes to slide down 2 inches when it reaches the top and fix the lighting (I don't think the previous owner replaced a bulb the entire time he owned the car, 3/4 of the interior ones don't work (not a fuse). At some point the top will need replacing too as it is showing some minor wear.

Update 1/07
Here's the fender tag from my car

I've also cleaned and fixed the seam on the boot cover. Still too cold to work on installing the EVA though!
