The Big Crew Cab. 1981 Chevy 1-ton 4x4 Crew Cab. Originally built by Steve who put on a 6" suspension and 3" body lift, and built a 396 big block for it. It was a '67 Camaro 396 block bored .030 over with domed pistons, 781 casting heads, Comp 280 cam, .520 valve lift, Erson gear drive, Holley dual plane aluminum intake and custom rebuilt 750 Holley carb. Steve built this motor right, as it pushed around this big crew cab on 38" Gumbo Mudders with 4.10 gears and a 4spd around town and down the road while towing many vehicles and other equipment. He also mud raced it, and ran nitrous on the motor several times.

He would use it to tow a buddys rig on a trailer out to a mud race, unhook the trailer, race the Crew Cab, hit nitrous, then at the end of the day hook it back up to the trailer and tow the other truck home with it.

My friend Nathan bought it from Steve and put his better tread 39.5" Boggers on it. Nathan was hard on it too, but that motor still ran strong.

Then I bought it from Nathan and ran it hard.

The other rigs of the fleet come in handy. Theres a reason I own multiple trucks and multiple winches.

Finally I decided I wanted to change it a bit... go to a bigger big block (468 or bigger) and a 12" lift that I had gotten off another truck I lowered down and re-sold, as well as the 44" Gumbo Mudders I got. I also wanted to go from 4.10 gears to 5.13's, and also added a big winch bumper and Ramsey winch on the front. I'll also use a 2wd 4spd tranny with a divorced Dodge NP205 to help with driveline angles. We also have a police light bar for the top of it.

The 396 went to the Truck Blazer (where it ran almost another 2 years of hard usage before the rings finally gave out), and all the other parts except body and frame got used on other rigs. Right now it's on blocks until I finish rounding up all the parts I need to complete it the way I want it.

Great looking truck, that thing could squish my car, looks mean and ready to do some major off-roadin'. What's next to do to it? Even with the mods I have I could not do any off-roadin' in my DOdge, it just would not do very well.
