Engine is original, with 228,000 miles on clock at the time these pictures were taken.
And yes, it is still pretty quick, and runs very very well. Gives me 17 mpg going back and forth to work. From the woods to the heart of New Orleans, which means that most of that mpg is city, but 17 is the average daily for it when I take it with me.
On the highway, normal for it is about 19 or 20 mpg now, so that's not too bad, even for a newer truck with less miles.
A couple years back when I still had my bedcover, it was normal for it to average 22-23 mpg highway, and sometimes even up to 24-25, straight highway, no city.

Future plans for this engine may include pullies and an electric fan. I'm not sure though. I may leave it alone and just wait till I get the LS2 02 vette 6.0 I want to go with next. I know for sure we are supercharging the 6.0 along with many other things. The engine swap may be as soon as late 2008, depending on how this motor runs, and what the $$$$ situation is like then.

Fast?
I haven't raced it much, never on the track.

Stayed with(nose to door) a stock 2001 Cobra as it is now, back in 2004. Had about 170,000 miles on it then.

Beat a 1992 Camaro RS with 305.

This isn't much, but may give you an idea of how it runs.
Destroyed a 2006 Silverado also with a 5.3 (stock) this past December.
lol I was in my dad's 06 following him in my truck (he wanted to see if the tranny shifted bad with him......long story), and he nailed it at a dead stop. I floored the 06, but all I was seeing was taillights a couple car lengths ahead.
He slowed down and did it again at 30 mph (I have a bad slip going into 3rd gear). Same result, but he got a lot further ahead, after he gained traction. (It does spin a lil bit for a couple feet being floored like that) lol
When we got back to my house, he hopped out, gave me a look, and said, "I'd take this over my Z28. It'd smoke that car. Damn." We used to have a pair of 1982 Z28s when they first came out.
