1987 Porsche 924S
3-13-04: Been a while since ive updated this. Nothing really new with the car other than new tires and WetOkole seatcovers in a few weeks. I had the strut brace mounts powercoated black today, looks pretty good.
Heres the story of how I got this. I was looking for a '89 - '92 VW GTI for almost a year and found a '89 in pretty good shape, I told my dad to look into it for me, he would just need to buy it for me and I would pay him back within the next 2 months. So after about a week and a half later he says he found a '89 Porsche 944 and wants to know if I want it before he sells it. So we do a quick once over on the car and it turns out its got a whole lotta rust on the underside and its eating through the floor boards. Another 2 weeks goes by...and I find another GTI. Show it too my dad, and about 4 days later my dad calls my phone and goes "I just got a Porsche, its in the driveway now if you wanna see it.". So i drive back home, and their sits a Porsche 924S. I started it up and reved the engine a little...sounded awsome and at that same moment I forgot all about ever wanting a GTI. I was hoping it was a 944 because i happen to like the widebody fenders a little more, but no biggie. And i was hoping for a 5-speed manual (i had learned stick on the Probe) but it was a 3-speed automatic. Ive grown to cope with it, although i hate it dearly. I want to peform a 5-speed transmission swap, but that would literally cost more than the cars worth. It sure as hell beats the snot out of my '89 Ford Probe LX....so im happy. I have grown to love this cars very neutral handling at high speeds. I hope to purchase a 944 Turbo S in the near future (maybe after college). The 924S may not be the fastest Porsche, even more so that its a 3-speed automatic. But its my Porsche. Its nice to be able to say "I drive a Porsche." when someone asks what you drive...=P

Before you buy a Turbo, I suggest you try an 88 924S Club Sport with M030 suspension and 5 speed. That car is a lot lighter than a stock 924S and has 160 hp. It is simpler and cheaper to maintain than the Turbo. I am running 6" telephone dials in front and 7" ones in rear with 215/60 X 15 V-rated Yokohama ES100. The car is a blast, especially in turns.
