'70 VW Bug:
No Photo yet- But my roots originally start with the VW Bug!! As this being my first car and my first project car to boot!! One summer when I was 15 years old I was to stay with my Grandpa and help him around his shop. As far back as I can remember he owned a small VW repair garage. It was cool to spend this time with him and to help him around the shop. He was teaching me, and I was learning all about cars.. One special day, he took me to this salvage yard he owned and told me to pick one... I was speechless!! There had to be at least 50 cars to choose from.. Now, to the average person it probably seemed like junk, and a car-lot filled with nothing but junked out cars.. But, to a 15 year old, I was seeing beyond the rust, and the dull paint, beyond the surface into what they could become.. I chose this little '70 VW Bug out of all the cars I could of chosen (Type Is, IIs, and IIIs). I chose this little sad and raggedy beetle stuck in the tall weeds, and buried halfway in the dirt.. We spent the remander of that day pulling her out of her sad grave and only after much work and a lot of patience. I fell in love almost the moment I knew she was mine, and nothing was going to stop me from getting her out!! We finally did and got her to the shop. The remainder of that summer my grandpa taught me how to restore her, and bring her back to life.. The VW will always be a part of who I am, and that time with my grandpa will forever be with me.. That summer will forever be one of my greatest memories!! I can never look at the VW bug again without thinking about what I learned from my grandpa and the time I spent with him.. I will forever be grateful to my grandpa and his awesome gift... My first car!! Truthfully, he gave me much more than just a car. He gave me so much more than even just the understanding of cars and how to fix and take care of them.. His greatest gift was the special memories of he and I working in his shop together.. Grandpa and Grandson... What more could I ask for?? Thank You Grandpa!! You're still loved dearly and you're never forgotten!! Rest In Peace.. Love, your grandson, Rick
