My '02 Freelander Handled like a dream and was plenty fast. (It would smoke any of those young fella's little Honda civic...) I had about 93K miles on it and the front dif went out in it. This was a very costly endeavor considering every single Land Rover dealer wanted to replace the entire thing and not FIX it. ($4000.00-$5000.00)I went to a few independent Land Rover mechanics but they all had a ton of experience and a plethora of parts available with regards to the Disco and Range Rover but none of them really wanted to fool with the Freelander being that it is TOTALY different and the parts here in the states are still far and few between. I found a good old fashion country boy who told me: "If a man can make it, I can fix it" so I gave him a shot considering what he was about to work on , if he fails, will be replaced anyway... Well, he rebuilt that front dif in one night and it ran just fine. He did tell me the same thing that the independent Land Rover mechanics told too... Get rid of it! I was told it was just more EXPENCIVE problems waiting to happen. So I sold it...
I hated to get rid of it because when it was running right it was the best all around vehicle I've ever driven. I loved that Freelander.
