November 2006 (two months after purchase)
Unfortunately this car had been butchered before I got it.. The front section of pipe all the way to the mid-section has been replaced with an abortion of an excuse for a downpipe with a smaller diameter - and WELDED to the resonator! I now have an original front section of pipe, and just found out about the weld yesterday, when I tried to fit it. The aftermarket oxygen sensors (which are not in the correct placement on the pipe to begin with) had been spliced with duct tape into the harness, as they didn't come with Saab connectors on them. The ride was so rough that I thought it was going to need front struts.. until I found that the tire pressure read almost 100psi in the front, dammit..
Upon exectuting its first oil change I discovered that the drain plug had no washer, and had been so over-tightened to compensate for this that I needed an extension handle on my socket drive to get it open! The filter was on so tight that I broke my filter wrench trying to get that off, too.
Slowly but surely I'm getting there, though. So far I've had to replace:
battery (first day)
rear brake pads
wiper blades
serpentine belt snapped the first day (*it went through five more..)
headlamp lens
(missing) horn relay
trans fluid dipstick
driver's seat memory module
ignition cassette (an earlier recall item which hadn't been done)
rear view mirror (one of those auto-dimmer jobs)
window switch pack (which is still en route via ebay)
fro nt section of exhaust pipe.
both oxygen sensors:
Still, I just love this car, and it'll be even better once I get the correct down-pipe on!
