My car is a 1973 Dodge Charger SE. I bought it in November of 2004 after a year and a half of searching extensively through local ads, the internet, eBay, etc. The engine ran, but the car did not move under its own power. After almost two years of restoration, I was finally able to legally drive my Charger on the road. I have driven it as much as possible since I got her on the road.
All of the work was done by me, with a lot of help from my father. The work consisted mostly of bodywork. Bondo, sanding and paint took most of the time. The vinyl top was removed and replaced to neutralize the rust underneath it. The mechanical parts we changed were the water pump, alternator, starter, fuel pump, and power steering pump. We rebuilt the carburetor, tuned it, adjusted the timing, changed the exhaust manifold gasket, wrapped the driver side header with heat wrap, changed the spark plugs and wires, and now it’s drivable. It still needs some tuning though. As for the interior, the driver side floor pan was rusted out, and the carpeting and headliner were changed. The front seats I picked up from the swap meet at the all-Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle. The sound system (CD player and rear speakers) came out of my 1995 Avenger that I totaled.
The engine is a 1973 440 with an Edelbrock performer-440 intake manifold, an Edelbrock 750 cfm 4-bbl. carburetor, 1960-something heads, Summit headers, and that is as much as I know. It has MSD ignition, a 727 trans, a Hurst Dual-Gate shifter, and a Dana 60 with 3.55’s.
The car originally had a 400, but the engine was swapped sometime before I bought it. The original color is fy1 yellow, but the paint I used is called sunshine yellow. I think that it’s close enough for now. I used my summer job working on my grandfather’s farm to pay for the $5000, about, that I spent, which includes the cost of the car.
Updates: replaced the starter relay that wend bad at the end of last year, started her up for the first time since November. Sometime later in the week (I was home for spring break) my brother put his car back together (he changed the intake manifold, carburator, and radiator) and started his up and I decided to run mine again, I knew the starter was going again (3rd time), but I didn't think it would happen this soon. It finally died, because it's almost touching the headers (wraping the headers and starter with insulation helps, but not enough). That adds another hundred bucks or so to my plans for the spring for a short starter, along with the suspension rebuild (tie rod is bad and it was something I wanted to do anyway).

sometime in the summer: Starter was changed, got the suspension rebuild kit, partially installed it, the more time consuming parts of it are getting done during the winter. Raced it at Numedia raceway, a little dissapointed by the time, but satisfied that I beat my brother's Coronet and my friend's Mustang. Also I know I can get faster than a 14.8, if I get drag tires, already have wider rims for them, just need the money. I was sideways of the line on almost every launch. I knew I should have lifted in my last race, because I set my dial-in for 15.0, but I didn't figure I was going to beat everybody, and I really wanted to atleast break into the 14's that night, so I kept on it and broke out. Oh well, it was fun and it won't be my last time there.
