This is my pink/white BelAir 2-door Hardtop was purchased from a guy I went to school with 1/~/1980.
This car was made in Norwood, OH and was built 139 cars before my 210 4-door Sedan on the assembly line. It too came painted Dusk Pearl/Imperial Ivory from the factory like my 210 4-door Sedan and also sets on a one-piece frame.
I purchased it for $150, didn't run so it got trailored home.
I had tried to buy this car in 1972 but the THEN owner wouldn't part with it, even though the car sat at a local gas station and never moved. It was used on the drag strip like many other Classic Chevies. It was in pretty sad shape when I got it. It now sports an early 70s built V-8, Headers, Muncie 4-speed w/V-gate shifter, aftermarket gauges, Lakewood traction bars, Cragar SS wheels 14x7-front 14x8-rear, and air shocks. The white in the hood is a STEEL 71-72 Chevelle Cowl Induction scoop I put on there in 1982.
This car like many Classic Chevies spent time on the drag strip during the 1960s racing under the name "Mr. 57."
I painted it myself in 1990-91 using Dusk Pearl/Imperial Ivory again. Before painting I had to remove several layers of paint including the top coat which was hard as Iron. I suspect it was some type of Implement paint and was a very dark green. I had to use a grinder on the cowl to remove this paint it was so hard.
NOTE: This is a picture of my hardtop, taken around 1982 and I'd already owned the car a couple years. It was in worse shape than this when I brought it home.
Another picture of the same car taken in 1989.(I realize it's not a very good picture, but you get the idea)
2003 some of the work I did to my Hardtop was: purchased a new hood bar, and extensions, new grille bar, new Cragar SS wheels for the front (now for some new tires), new ball joints, new polyurethane bushings, new Taylor 8mm plug wires, new cap & rotor, and I'd like to give one of the Crame Cams conversion modules for the distributor a try. NOW.... for the time to put all this stuff on (and the weather).
Fall, '03. I got my new SS wheels on the front finally. Now if I could just afford some new tires for them?
JAN, '04.... .well I finally bought the new skins I wanted. Goodrich T/A radials. Got them at a local tire store for less than I could at Tire Rack and NO shipping charges. Okay I had to mount them but no problem there. As of 01/06/04 they were all mounted. (Now to get some pics of them up)
(02/~/04) Three sisters wanted to use one of my cars to take pics of. They & their spouses were dressed in '50s clothing and wanted a '57 Chevy to stand next to. From their conversation they do this every Valentine's Day for a party they go to. The one who called and asked was kind enough to give me a copy of one of the pics they took.
My Hardtop summer of '04
The dash in my Hardtop.
We went to a cruise in today (Father's Day 06/19/05)
YES, you see an outhouse behind my car. After riding with me, you "Just" may need it?
MAN.. do I miss my Cragar SS wheels.
(I removed them because I'm have two 14x8s custom made for the rear)
