I am finally done with my custom enclosures for the trunk. This page shows how I built them. This was my first attempt at building enclosures, so trust me... I know they could be MUCH better. I'm sure I'll get tired of these soon and make some better ones. The center plywood box is already starting to wear out, but the side MDF ones are holding strong and will continue to do so because they were built right.
I made a template out of cardboard. The first fit wasn't good, so I cut some off. I cut too much, though, so I had to rig it to fit with electrical tape. Cheap solution, I know. It worked.
I used the template to cut some plywood to fit. The plywood was stamped May 1989, so it really didn't hold together well. The edges splintered pretty badly, but the parts that messed up are not part of the box itself, and will be covered by carpet later anyways.
The first fit of the wood was an inch too long, so I trimmed it and it fit fine. My only concern at this point was how the trunk bottom sagged in the middle from the weight of the old box. I fixed it by shoring up the bottom of the trunk with more wood.
The box started to take shape. I still needed to work on the back panel because I didn't cut it straight.
I installed the subs and got a test fit in the trunk. It was mostly good.
The left side was perfect. The right side was off a bit. Luckily, sealed enclosures are forgiving to cutting errors, and carpet will cover the patches I made.
Finally got the carpet that I ordered. Left side is perfect, right side got better once I put it into the car and started trimming.
Carpet makes everything look so much better, and having grey subs that match both shades of carpet just makes it look clean.
I got all of the fitment issues ironed out, finally.
Here is the finished product. I'm pretty much happy with the way it turned out, except for the color mismatch. Once I build the other two boxes, that won't matter.

I have started the other two boxes for the sides. The fronts and basic frames are made, but the backs aren't done yet. Pics soon.
Update 7/25/07
My boxes got put on hold because I am helping a friend with a box for 4 Alpine Type Rs. In return, he gave me his spare MDF board. We have all the pieces cut and the frames put together. Tomorrow, we will carpet his box and install terminals. Then, we will move on to my boxes.
Update 8/5/07
Work, a trip to Oklahoma, drama, and general lack of time has kept my boxes in pieces in the corner of my friend's apartment. We finally got to them today. The frames were already together from the 25th. I cut the holes for the terminals and subs with a jigsaw. We got everything put together and sealed. One of the boxes is carpeted. Unfortunately, we got so deep into the work that we forgot to take pictures. Tomorrow, (for real this time), I'll put the carpet on the last one and get the subs rewired and installed. There will be pics of the install.
Update 8/7/07
I messed up a measurement somewhere in my haste to get the boxes together, but I was able to fix the problem. All four 10s are wired up and running nicely.
The driver's side turned out alright, but the wires on the trunk hinge were an obstacle to overcome. The middle ones are slightly off center, but I'll fix that with the next set of boxes.
The right side fared better than the left, but I'll still need to work on the carpet. There's a shot of my amp, tucked away under the driver's seat by the recirculation intake.
I am still not happy with the carpet on the sides and bottom of the trunk, but I have plenty of spare carpet to work with. I'll make it all match sometime.

My sister's car got broken into and her system was stolen. This prompted me to take a couple of steps toward theft deterrant. I decided to relocate my head unit to the 96-98 stock cd player location above the cup holders to make it less visable. It's a common but effective mod. I took a trip to my local salvage yard and found a suitable replacement, cleaned it up, and did the relocation.
Before and after:
Aftermarket CD player? huh? I roll stock...

I finally got tired of the mismatched and worn out Pioneer 6x9s and the Kenwood 6.5s, so I spent more money than I should have and got the Alpine Type R 6.5s (SPR-17C) and the Alpine Type R 6x9s (SPR-69C). They sound great and work well with the Alpine CDE-9841 head unit I've always had.
I went ahead and used Alpine's 3 screw to 4 screw conversion rings, but I still had to cut the door panels quite a bit to make it all fit right. The effort was worth the end product.
I was tired after all the cutting so I don't have pictures of the finished product, but they look about how you would expect a speaker to look from behind a plastic grille.

I didn't get to update much in the past couple of months, but I converted to a black interior with grey leather Integra LS seats. I tried to dye the carpet but it turned out baller purple. Dunno if I'll fix that yet. The wheel is gonna be replaced with an S2000 wheel whenever I can find one.

Here's the S2000 steering wheel, straight out of the box.
It's a little smaller than the stock EK wheel.
On the car...

I added an Integra map light. It had to be chopped up a bit to fit, but it works fine and looks stock.
